DANVILLE, Ky. – Fabio Martin Rojo became a three-time champion and
Max van Schagen collected three All-conference finishes as the Lindsey Wilson men's swimming team sits in second place after day one of the Mid-South Conference swimming and diving championships.
Inside Centre College's Champions Hall, the Blue Raiders earned 242 points and trail only Cumberlands (Ky.) by 49 points.
Martin Rojo clinched Lindsey Wilson's lone win of the evening in the 500-yard freestyle after swimming neck-and-neck with teammate
Sergio Ybarra the entire race. The latter of the two held a slim advantage going into the final lap but Martin Rojo closed down and hit the wall first by 0.19 seconds. The senior earns his third consecutive conference title in the event and 12
th career All-conference finish.
Ethan Butler narrowly missed on All-conference honors in the same race, finishing in fourth place.
The finals session opened with the 200-yard freestyle relay where Lindsey Wilson's team of
Azahn Hicks,
Jose Rivas,
Clinton Eales, and van Schagen clocked a season-best time of 1:23.91 to earn second place.
Then, in the 50-yard sprint, van Schagen and Hicks finished second and third, respectively, by only 0.09 seconds.
Lindsey Wilson concluded the day with a runner-up effort in the 400-yard medley relay.

Day two of the conference championships begin with a preliminary round at 9 a.m. CST on Friday, February 6. Events for the second day include the 100-yard butterfly, 400-yard individual medley, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke, 200-yard medley relay, and 800-yard freestyle relay.
