DANVILLE, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson women's swimming team moved up one spot to second place on day two of the Mid-South Conference swimming and diving championships on Friday.
Inside Centre College's Champions Hall,
Kirsten de Goede and
Maaike Broersma each captured individual titles for the second day in a row and the Blue Raiders remained undefeated in relays with two more wins.
The first of those relay victories came in the 200-yard medley relay with
Sara Motyl,
Natalia Gorska, Broersma, and de Goede. The Blue Raiders' foursome topped the field with a championship record time of 1:43.57.
Then, individually, de Goede dominated the 200-yard freestyle with an NAIA "A"-standard, school record, and championship record mark of 1:48.15. The junior shaved 1.09 seconds off her previous school record which she set only during the morning's preliminary session.
Her freestyle speed was heard from, again, at the end of the evening in the 800-yard freestyle relay where she anchored for a team that also included
Hannah Woyscheszik,
Nathalie Medina, and Gorska. When de Goede hit the water for her portion of the relay, the Blue Raiders trailed Cumberlands (Ky.) by 5.63 seconds. She quickly closed down the difference and got in to the wall 2.76 seconds ahead of the Patriots to seal her sixth First-team All-conference finish of the week.
Broersma collected her second gold medal of the week in the 100-yard backstroke as she and Gorska finished first and second, respectively. Broersma's victory is her fourth all-time for the event and she did it with an "A"-cut time and championship record of 54.80.
Motyl garnered Lindsey Wilson's third individual All-conference accolade of the night in the 100-yard breaststroke with a runner-up finish and mark of 1:05.16.
The Blue Raiders will return to Centre at 9 a.m. CST on Saturday, February 8 for the third and final day of the Mid-South Conference championships. The morning session includes the finals of the 1,650-yard freestyle, but all other finals, including the 200-yard backstroke, 200-yard breaststroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard butterfly, and 400-yard freestyle relay, will occur in the evening session.
