DANVILLE, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson men's swimming team earned second place at the Mid-South Conference championships on Saturday evening at Centre College.
The Blue Raiders finished with 770.5 points, a 140-point improvement from a season ago.
Sergio Ybarra was voted Freshman of the Year after finishing the week with one gold and three silver medals, and a new championship meet record in the 1,650-yard freestyle.
Ybarra's efforts in the mile opened Saturday's final session as he clocked an NAIA "A"-standard time of 15:41.89. Teammate
Fabio Martin Rojo dialed up a season-best time of his own to earn second place, while
Ethan Butler and
Akram Nejjar placed fourth and sixth, respectively.
In the 200-yard breaststroke,
Clinton Eales became Lindsey Wilson's second ever, and first since Jonas Mueller in 2016 to win the event, and doing so in school-record time – 2:01.82.
Dan Spinola also collect All-conference honors in the same race, finishing third.
The Blue Raiders concluded the week with another All-conference, runner-up finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay with
Max van Schagen,
Dario Soria, Eales, and Martin Rojo touching the wall at 3:05.65.
Individually, van Schagen and Soria picked up additional All-conference honors. The latter of the two scored a second-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke, and van Schagen tallied a third-place performance in the 100-yard freestyle.
In all, the Blue Raiders totaled 19 All-conference finishes this week, including four goal, 11 silver, and four bronze medals.
Lindsey Wilson turns its attention to the NAIA National Championships, which are scheduled for March 5-8 in Elkhart, Indiana.
