Four Earn Individual Honors for Women's Swimming on Final Day of Conference

DANVILLE, Ky. – Two Lindsey Wilson women's swimming student-athletes and two coaches earned individual All-conference awards as the Blue Raiders finished third in the Mid-South Conference swimming and diving championships at Centre College.

Maaike Broersma was voted the women's Swimmer of the Year for the second consecutive year. The graduate senior won all three of her individual events this week and legged three victorious relays.

Nathalie Medina garnered Freshman of the Year status. She becomes the first student-athlete in program history to receive the accolade after earning two gold, two silver, and one bronze medal.

Annissa Koekemoer was selected as the women's Assistant Coach of the Year for the first time. In her second season on the staff, she joins fellow assistant coach Tyler King as the program's only award winners.

Lastly, Alicia Kemnitz earned her fourth career women's Head Coach of the Year award. In 15 seasons at the helm of the Lindsey Wilson swimming program, she has now received Head Coach of the Year honors four times for both men's and women's swimming.

Saturday's final session began with the 1,650-yard freestyle, in which Medina logged the third-fastest time of 17:38.55. She picked up another medal toward the end of the evening in the 200-yard butterfly, posting an NAIA "A"-cut time of 2:05.55 en route to a second-place finish.

Broersma captured her third individual title of the week in the 200-yard backstroke with an "A"-cut time of 2:01.49. It is her third career conference championship in the event and ninth individual title overall.

The Blue Raiders dominance in the freestyle events continued moments later when Kirsten de Goede clinched her third gold medal with a school record, championship record, and "A"-standard mark of 49.25 in the 100-yard freestyle. Her teammate Natalia Gorska followed close behind to also notch All-conference honors in third place.

Lindsey Wilson's night ended in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of Gorska, Medina, Broersma, and de Goede solidified the Blue Raiders perfect week in relays by reaching the wall in meet-record time – 3:26.34.

The women closed the weekend with 18 total All-conference honors, including a meet-best 11 gold medals.

With the conference championships completed, its on to the NAIA National Championships on March 5-8 in Elkhart, Indiana.
