UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Lindsey Wilson women's wrestling team posted four first-place finishes at the JCU Open Sunday at the DeCarlo Varsity Center.
Rodiat Adeduntan finished first at 110 pounds,
Kamilah Brooks took home the title at 124 pounds,
India Page took first the 180-pound bracket while
Hayeni Costa finished first at 207 pounds.
Adeduntan – who was wrestling unattached – opened her tournament with an 11-5 decision over Madeline Ridge from East Stroudsburg in the quarterfinals. She punched her ticket to the finals with an 11-8 decision over East Stroudsburg's Emily Klein. Adeduntan earned a 10-0 tech fall over Alanna Barberio from East Stroudsburg in the finals.
Brooks (No. 10 at in the NAIA at 124 pounds) earned a 10-0 tech fall over Freya Munshi from Metrowest United in the quarterfinals. She advanced to the finals with a 10-0 tech fall over John Carroll's Riley Duffey. In the finals, Brooks earned her third 10-0 tech fall with a win over Waverly Kanelong from East Stroudsburg.
Page (No. 3 at 180 pounds) took home the title with three first-period pins. In the quarterfinals, she pinned Sophie Diaz from Bethany and then defeated Riley Wentlent from D'Youville in the semifinals. Page then pinned Bethany's Shanielah Kirk in 43 seconds in the finals.
Costa (No. 7 at 207 pounds) pinned Waynesburg's Ja`Khia Matthews in the first round. She then pinned MacKenzie Laforest from D'Youville and took first with a 10-0 tech fall over Mount Union's Emily Jirousek.
Trinity Davis earned a runner-up finish at 131 pounds. Davis started her tournament with a 10-0 tech fall over East Stroudsburg's Cadence Howard and then pinned Mount Union's Ariel Manning in the quarterfinals. She defeated John Carroll's Sumayyah Kemp 4-2 in the semifinals. She was defeated by D'Youville's Madison Wellen 12-1 in the first-place match.
Reagan Thomas (No. 11 at 110 pounds) finished third in the 110-pound bracket. Thomas was pinned in her first match by East Stroudsburg's Tiana Savino. In her first consolation match, she pinned Waynesburg's Faryn Dewitt in the first period. Thomas then picked up a 10-0 tech fall over Klein in the consolation semifinals. She defeated East Stroudsburg's Tiana Savino 12-3 in the third-place match.
Audrey Smith posted a third-place finish at 117 pounds. Smith pinned Mount Union's Aubrey Filsinger in the first period of the quarterfinals. She was then pinned by East Stroudsburg's Olivia Palmer (No. 19 in NCAA at 117 pounds) in the semifinals. In the consolation semifinals, Smith earned a 12-3 decision over Rebecca Ridling from D'Youville. Smith picked up a 15-4 tech fall over Emily Leeseberg from John Carroll.
Kori Campbell (No. 8 at 138 pounds) finished third in the 138 bracket. Campbell fell in her first match 7-2 to East Stroudsburg's Jackeline Ramos. She then rattled off four-consecutive wins in the consolation rounds. In her first consolation match, she earned a 4-1 decision over East Stroudsburg's Ruth Rivera. Campbell then pinned Angelica Ramos from East Stroudsburg and defeated Jackeline Ramos in the consolation semifinals. She earned a 15-4 tech fall over Mason Harsch in the third-place match.
Abigail Vanderheyden finished sixth at 131 pounds. Vanderheyden picked up a 13-3 tech fall over Mount Union's Ilani Jones-Wallace in the quarterfinals. She was pinned by Madison Wellen from D'Youville in the semifinals and was pinned by Rochester's Anika Yakuber in the consolation semis. Vanderheyden was defeated by Katie Ramirez-Quintero from Joliet in the fifth-place match.
The Blue Raiders are back in action on Friday for a dual at Cumberlands (Ky.) at 6 p.m. CT.
