Blue Raiders Held Scoreless Last 5:33, Fall To Freed-Hardeman 48-46 in First Round of MSC Tournament

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- Women's Basketball fell to the three-seeded Lady Lions 48-46 in the first round of the Mid-South Conference tournament at Studle Financial Arena in  Bowling Green, Kentucky. 

Claire Fleming ended the night with 15 points, leading all scores as well as four rebounds and two assists. Guess tacked on 12 with one rebound, one assist, one steal, and one block. Saniyah Shelton led the team in rebounds, assists, and steals with nine, four, and four, respectively. 

Emily Cox got the offense started for the ballgame as Saniyah Shelton fed her in the low post for a tough layup at 8:25. After an answer from the Lady Lions, Taylor Guess found the bottom of the net at 6:26 to give the Blue Raiders an early 5-2 advantage. Freed-Hardeman ended the quarter on a 10-1 run giving them a 12-6 advantage headed into the second quarter. 

Guess drained a three, nine seconds into the second as Fleming found her at the top of the key cutting the deficit to 12-9. With 6:50 to play before the half Lindsey Wilson went on a 4-0 run that lasted 0:56 on four consecutive free throws from Fleming and Guess, putting the Blue Raiders within one at 14-13 with 5:54 to play. LWC closed the quarter on an 8-4 run, giving them a 21-18 edge headed into the locker room at halftime.

Kaylee Odom started the second half with an and-one to tie the Blue Raiders at 21-21 with 9:36 on the clock. From 9:18 to 8:17 the two programs traded baskets keeping the score neck-and- neck until Shelton found Thomas for a three at 7:51 giving the Blue Raiders a 29-25 lead with 7:51 on the clock. The three from Thomas sparked a 10-3 run that lasted 3:00 extending the Blue Raider lead to 36-28. FHU outscored LWC in the final 2:38 of the third quarter, cutting into the Lindsey Wilson lead, 40-35. 

Freed-Hardeman scored first in the fourth, but Fleming answered with back-to-back contested layups, extending the lead to 44-37. Brooklyn Crouch responded with a tough two of her own for the Lady Lions, but Fleming had another basket of her own to add at 5:35 to push the lead back to 46-39. With 1:48 on the clock, FHU's Rachel Satterly converted on two free throws to tie the game at 46-46. Jenna Satterly laid in a basket with 23.8 on the clock to give Freed-Hardeman the 48-46 lead. FHU ended the game on a 9-0 run, picking up a 48-46 victory. 

Lindsey Wilson expects to earn an at-large bid into the NAIA Women's Basketball Championship. The Championship field gets announced on Thursday at 7 p.m. CST.
