Women’s Basketball Faces William Carey in First Round of NAIA Tournament

COLUMBIA, Ky.- The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team heads to New Orleans, Louisiana for the first round of the NAIA National Tournament. The 14th-seeded Blue Raiders face No. 3 seed William Carey (Miss.)  at 5 pm CT on Friday in the Convocation Center located on the campus of Xavier University of Louisiana. 

The Blue Raiders (16-13) are coming off a 48-46 loss to Freed-Hardeman University (Tenn.) in the first round of the Mid-South Conference Tournament in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Taylor Guess leads the offense for Lindsey Wilson, tallying 15.3 points a game, 4.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists. Saniyah Shelton is the team's second-leading scorer with 11.4 ppg, 6.3 boards, and 2.7 assists. Claire Fleming and Jarie Thomas are the other two Blue Raiders who average double digits with 10.7 and 10.6, respectively, 

William Carey (25-1) suffered their first loss of the season in the quarterfinals of the Southern States Athletic Conference tournament, falling to Blue Mountain Christian (Miss.) 60-57. Kolton Blakeney leads the offense for the Crusaders, averaging 15.1 points per contest, with 8.5 rebounds. Shaneal Corpuz contributed 14.6 points, and 8.9 boards, with 27 blocks this season. Rose Warren rounds out the double-digit scoring with 10.4 ppg, 4.9 boards, and 5.4 assists.

This will be the third all-time match-up between the two programs with Lindsey Wilson claiming the 2-0 series. Lindsey Wilson and William Carey last met on November 22, 2008 in Hattiesburg where the Blue Raiders took a 63-42 victory over the Crusaders. 

Lindsey Wilson and William Carey will tip off at 5 pm CT in the Convocation Center located on the campus of Xavier University of Louisiana for the first round of the NAIA National Tournament.
