COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson softball team secured its first win at Sparks Park in 2025 on Thursday evening, splitting a non-conference doubleheader with Midway (Ky.).
Kendall Dailey paced the Blue Raider offense with three hits, while
Sam Hartman drove in four runs on two hits.
Game One | Lindsey Wilson 0, Midway (Ky.) 2
The visiting Eagles' defense stifled the home side's bats in the first of Thursday's twinbill. All five of the Blue Raiders' hits came over the last three innings as Midway clung to and ultimately came away with a two-run win.
A fielder's choice RBI-bunt by the Eagles in the top half of the first frame opened the scoring. Then, in the second inning, Lindsey Wilson loaded the bases with a pair of walks and a hit-by-pitch but was left stranded.
Midway tallied its second run in the top leg of the fifth inning, and despite a thunderous push by the Blue Raiders late, the Eagles got the plays they needed on defense to solidify the shutout.
Grace Adams worked through 6.0 innings of relief and surrendered one earned run on five hits while striking out two.
Game Two | Lindsey Wilson 7, Midway (Ky.) 1
After being held without a hit in game one, Hartman erupted for a four-RBI performance in game two.
She was first heard from in the bottom half of the first inning when a 2-2 pitch met the barrel of her bat and came to rest over the left field fence. The home run was Hartman's team-leading fourth of the season and plated Dailey to give Lindsey Wilson a 2-0 advantage.
In the third inning, Hartman struck again with a two-out RBI-single up the middle to score
Brylee Pickerell. Then, in the following frame, Dailey and Pickerell teamed up with back-to-back base hits to bring across two more runs and extend the Blue Raiders' lead to 5-0.
A lead-off walk to
Natalie Shaw started the fifth inning. The junior wound up scoring moments later when a stolen base turned into a trip around the bags, thanks to a throwing error by the Eagles' catcher.
Hartman delivered her last run in the bottom of the sixth inning on an infield groundout to plate Pickerell, and from there
Kayden Murray and
K'Asia Palmer did the rest.
Murray fired 6.0 flawless innings and kept Midway off the scoreboard on four hits to go along with 10 strikeouts. Palmer pitched the seventh for the Blue Raiders and recorded one strikeout to help preserve the victory.
Lindsey Wilson is back at Sparks Park at 3 p.m. CST on Wednesday, April 2 to host Shawnee State (Ohio) in another non-conference doubleheader.
