ELKHART, Ind. – The Lindsey Wilson women's swimming team got off to a strong start on day one of the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships, finishing runner-up in both of the evening's relays.
Maaike Broersma,
Sara Motyl,
Kirsten de Goede, and
Natalia Gorska opened the session in the 200-yard medley relay and touched the wall with a school-record time of 1:42.79.
Then, in the 800-yard freestyle relay, Broersma, de Goede, Gorska, and
Nathalie Medina shaved 2.83 seconds off their seeded time to punch in another program record at 7:36.35.
With their early efforts, the Blue Raiders finished day one ranked second in the team standings with 68 points.
Day two of the national championships open at 8 a.m. CST on Thursday, March 6. The day will feature the 500-yard freestyle (Medina), the 200-yard individual medley (
Emma Verkuijl and de Goede), the 50-yard freestyle (
Natascha Evreinoff, Motyl, Broersma, and Gorska), and the 200-yard freestyle relay.
