Men's Swimming Collects Another All-American Relay; Moves up to Sixth at Nationals

ELKHART, Ind. – In a unique set of circumstances surrounding the final event of the evening, the Lindsey Wilson men's swimming team earned its second All-American relay of the week to cap an exciting day at the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships.

The Blue Raiders entered the 200-yard freestyle relay seeded ninth and looked as though they might maintain that position after the final of two heats was completed. However, an officials' decision catapulted the team of Max van Schagen, Fabio Martin Rojo, Dario Soria, and Clinton Eales into sixth place with a time of 1:25.09.

Lindsey Wilson, who did not finish inside the top-eight in any of the five relays a season ago, has now earned All-American status in two of the three relays so far this week.

Individually, Martin Rojo claimed his fourth career All-American finish in the 500-yard freestyle after placing sixth in the "A"-final with a mark of 4:32.18.

Ethan Butler and Sergio Ybarra competed in the "B"-final of the 500-yard freestyle, finishing 10th and 14th, respectively. Furthermore, Butler's final time of 4:33.49 shaved 3.81 seconds off his preliminary time and set a new season-best for the sophomore.

Following the conclusion of day two, Lindsey Wilson sits in sixth place overall with 91 points. The Blue Raiders trail William Carey (Miss.) in fifth place by 34 points.

Day three of the national championships open at 9 a.m. CST on Friday, March 7 and will feature the 400-yard individual medley (Ybarra, Butler), 200-yard freestyle (Martin Rojo), 100-yard breaststroke (Eales and Dan Spinola), 100-yard backstroke (Soria), and the 400-yard medley relay.
