Ayala and Lee-Green Advance to Second Day of NAIA Men’s Wrestling National Championship

PARK CITY, Kan. – Adrian Ayala and Clarence Lee-Green IV advanced in the consolation brackets to the second day of the NAIA Men's Wrestling National Championship at Hartman Arena.

The Blue Raiders tallied four points to sit in 36th after the first day.

No. 16 seed Lee-Green IV earned a bye into the second round at 125 pounds. In the second round, Lee-Green was matched up with top-seeded Aden Reeves from Grand View (Iowa) and was defeated 13-5. He led Reeves 3-1 after the first period before being outscored 12-2 over the final two periods. Lee-Green earned a 9-4 decision over St. Thomas' (Fla.) Conner Hueck in his first consolation match to advance.

After earning a bye in the first round at 141 pounds, No. 13 seed Ayala lost in TB-1 2-1 to No. 4 seed Kael Brisker from Southeastern (Fla.) in the second round. After a scoreless first period, Ayala started on the bottom to begin the second period and earned an escape. Brisker earned an escape in the third to force overtime. After two scoreless overtimes, Brisker earned an escape in third for the 2-1 win. Ayala defeated No. 13 Eli Payton from Cumberlands (Ky.) 4-1 in sudden victory. Tied at 1-1 after three periods, Ayala clinched the victory with a takedown with 22 seconds left in the first overtime period.

Chase Ayers began his tournament at 125 pounds losing 16-1 to third-seeded Gabe Gonazalez from Grand View (Iowa.). Ayers dropped a 16-10 decision to Cleary's (Mich.) Jamarcus Smith in the consolation round ending his tournament. He led 6-5 after two periods before being outscored 11-4 in the final period.

Tony Rogers opened his tournament at in the 285-pound bracket with a second-period pin over 13th-seeded Seth Suvak from Dickinson State (S.D.). He trailed 3-0 early in the first period following a takedown from Suvak. Rogers then earned an escape, a takedown and two 4-nearfalls to take a 12-3 lead in the period. Suvak picked up four more points in the period as Rogers got an escape late to lead 13-7 after one. Rogers earned the pin with just eight seconds left in the second period to advance to the second round. In the second round, he was defeated by No. 4 seed Nico Rodriguez from Eastern Oregon 8-0 to fall to the consolation bracket. Rogers was pinned by No. 14 seed Shane Mattson from Montana State-Northern in the consolation round ending his tournament.

The second day of the NAIA Men's Wrestling Championship gets underway at 11 a.m. CT Friday at Hartman Arena.
