COLUMBIA, Ky. – Mother Nature did her part on Thursday morning, leaving the Blue Raider softball team with nothing to worry about as they knocked off Cumberland (Tenn.) 7-1 to wrap up the regular season and complete the series sweep.
Nora Epley recorded her team-leading 14
th multi-hit game of the season and second in as many tries with a pair of doubles, while
Sam Hartman drove in two runs on one hit.
Much like Wednesday's twinbill, Lindsey Wilson came alive in the second inning. Lead-off hitter
Natalie Wandrie needed only one pitch to open the scoring, crushing a line drive off the left-field foul pole for her fifth home run of the year and second of the series.
Brylee Pickerell followed with an infield single to the short side, then
Kendall Dailey reached after a Phoenix throwing error. A walk issued to
Katie Lorenz subsequently loaded the bases and a sacrifice flyout by
Natalie Shaw gifted Lindsey Wilson with its second run as Pickerell trotted home from third base.
The inning continued with back-to-back walks to Epley and
Atavya Fowler, the latter of which plating Dailey to push the hosts ahead 3-0. An RBI-single by Hartman sent home Epley and Lorenz to cap off the onslaught.
In the fourth frame, Cumberland ended the shutout bid with a solo home run. However, the Blue Raiders answered right back in the next half-inning with an RBI-double off the bat of Epley and another bases-loaded walk to bump their lead to six runs.
Relief pitchers
K'Asia Palmer and
Hallie Roberts combined to silence the Phoenix over the last three innings, striking out two and surrendering just two hits in the process.
Kayden Murray garnered career victory number 29 in the circle, working 4.0 complete innings, striking out seven, and allowing one earned run on two hits.
The Blue Raiders conclude the 2025 regular season with 23-19 overall record. They currently hold the third seed in the Mid-South Conference standings but will need Campbellsville (Ky.) to drop one of its final three games in order to keep it, otherwise Lindsey Wilson will slip to fourth.
The conference will officially unveil the tournament bracket this weekend. In the meantime, the softball team is slated to recognize its senior class at 10 a.m. CST on Sunday, April 27 at Sparks Park.
