BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The top-seeded Lindsey Wilson women's tennis team defeated No. 2 seed Cumberlands (Ky.) 4-0 to capture its third-straight Mid-South Conference Tournament title Friday at the Warren County Tennis & Sports Facility.
With the victory, the Blue Raiders (16-2) earn their 19th MSC Tournament title and earn the conference's automatic bid into the NAIA National Championship beginning May 13 in Mobile, Alabama.
Lindsey Wilson took a 1-0 lead after taking the doubles point.
Mayra Gisone & Anastasiia Ivancehnko (No. 4 doubles in ITA) defeated Liu YuFang and Mahiro Hara (ranked No. 40) 6-4 in the second-seeded doubles matches.
Aina Domingo Bernabeu and
Mariangeles Mateu( ranked No. 13) clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 victory over Marina Nagai and Rion Yanuma at No. 3 doubles.
Gisone increased the Blue Raiders lead to 2-0 winning in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 against YuFang at No. 5 singles.
Heyka Rodriguez defeated Victoria Zarate 6-4, 7-5 to push the Lindsey Wilson lead to 3-0. Mateu (No. 28) clinched the championship for the Blue Raiders with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Yanuma at No. 3 singles.
The NAIA National Tournament field is scheduled to be announced on April 29 on the NAIA website.
