Women’s Wrestling Finishes Fifth at NWCA/USMC National Duals

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The No. 5-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's wrestling team defeated No. 9 Texas Wesleyan and No. 11 Southern Oregon on Saturday to finish fifth at the NWCA/USMC National Duals at the UNI-Dome.
 
The Blue Raiders opened the day defeating Texas Wesleyan 33-12 to advance to the fifth-place match. Lindsey Wilson then defeated Southern Oregon 24-19 to finish fifth. The Blue Raiders finished the National Duals with a 4-1 record. Lindsey Wilson's lone loss was to No. 4 William Penn (Iowa).

Havana Hampl opened the dual with a pin of Nataleigh Zapata at 103 pounds. Texas Wesleyan tied the dual at 5-5 with a pin from Gracie Elliott (No. 15 at 110 pounds) over Reagan Thomas (No. 13 at 110). The Blue Raiders then rattled off six consecutive victories to take a commanding 32-12 lead. Callie Payton (No. 9 at 117) gave the Blue Raiders the lead with a 10-0 tech fall over Vanessa De La Cruz (No. 17 at 117). In the 124-pound bout, Kallisyca Gardner (No. 12 at 124) picked up a 10-0 tech fall over Violet De La Cruz. Jeila Ramos (No. 5 at 131) needed just 25 seconds to pin Elizabeth Duvall (No. 8 at 131).

Brielle Bibla (No. 13 at 138) pinned Jaylah Davenport at 138 pounds while Kori Campbell (No. 8 at 145) earned a 10-0 tech fall over Faith Vondy. Sofia Toledo closed out the run of six straight victories, pinning Pella Lefever at 160 pounds. Texas Wesleyan ended the dual with a 10-0 tech fall at 180 pounds and a 19-11 decision at 207.

Lindsey Wilson jumped out to a fast start, taking a 21-1 lead after winning the first five weight classes with two pins, two tech falls, and a decision. Skyler Randolph got things started with a 14-10 decision over Michaela Sarmiento.  Thomas pinned Briseis Serrano (No. 12 at 110), while Grace Lashinsky (No. 5 at 117) pinned Deandra Meza. Kamilah Brooks (No. 8 at 124) picked up a 10-0 tech fall over Kaylee Annis. Ramos earned a 10-0 tech fall over Jade Morales (No. 11 at 131).

Southern Oregon got its first win of the dual at 138 pounds with a pin to cut the Lindsey Wilson lead to 21-6. Campbell clinched the victory for the Blue Raiders with a 10-4 decision against Holland Wieber at 145 pounds, making it 24-7. Southern Oregon won at 160 with a 3-0 decision, 180 with a pin, and closed out the dual with a 10-0 tech fall at 207.

The Blue Raiders are back in action on Thursday, traveling to Midway, Kentucky, to face Mid-South Conference opponents Midway (Ky.) and Georgetown (Ky.) at 5 p.m. CT.
