Blue Raiders Shine on First Day at Vanderbilt Invitational, Strong Showing at Bellarmine Open

LOUISVILLE, Ky. The Lindsey Wilson indoor track and field teams opened strong on Friday at the Vanderbilt Invitational in Nashville, Tennessee, and the Bellarmine Open in Louisville, Kentucky.

Elaina Holliday set a new school record in the long jump with a mark of 5.72 meters, also meeting the NAIA "B" standard to place fifth at Vanderbilt. Promise Amasiatu led the Blue Raider women in the sprints with an eighth-place finish in the 200 meters at 24.92 seconds, also meeting the NAIA "B" standard. Rosemond Owusu followed in eighth in the long jump at 5.52 meters, while Hannah Reid ran 1:47.12 in the 600 meters to place seventh. Jermani Morris finished with a time of 26.98 seconds in the 200 meters.


On the men's side, D'Antonio Warren ran 22.02 in the 200 meters, followed closely by Daniel Otibo at 22.06 and Jakoby Graves at 22.09. Demarcus Robertson added a solid effort with a 22.47 to win his heat.


At the Bellarmine Open, the Blue Raiders showed depth in the middle-distance and field events. Mason Magyar and Bryce Clayton recorded personal bests in the 800 meters, finishing fifth and sixth in 2:01.59 and 2:02.55. Tyler Colvin clocked 9:02.68 in the 3,000 meters to place 19th, while Ashton Johnson and Kevin Cuin finished seventh and eighth in the 5,000 meters with times of 17:13.26 and 17:18.31.


In the throws, Leeshawn Johnson placed 10th in the weight throw with a mark of 13.92 meters, and Bryan Coleman threw a personal best 12.63 meters to place 12th. For the women, Sancia Smith ran 1:05.34 in the 400 meters, while freshman Emma Kate Emerson set personal bests in the 800 meters 2:43.80 and mile 5:54.22. In the field events, Nevaeh Acklin recorded 11.83 meters in the weight throw and 8.09 meters in the shot put, while Ariona Pope added 9.01 meters in the shot put.


The Blue Raiders will continue competition on Saturday as the second day of the Vanderbilt Invitational wraps up, while the Bellarmine Open concludes as a one-day meet in Louisville.
