Blue Raiders Defeat Phoenix 71-59

LEBANON, Tenn.- No.24 Lindsey Wilson defeated (RV) Cumberland (Tenn.) 71-59 Saturday afternoon in Dallas Floyd Phoenix Arena. 

Meadow Tisdale led the offense with 16 points on 5-of-7 shooting while Taylor Guess contributed 12 points on 4-of-6 from the free throw line. Saniyah Shelton rounded out the double-figure scoring with a double-double tallying 10 points and 11 rebounds. 

Saniyah Shelton opened the scoring knocking down a layup at 9:46 to give the Blue Raiders an early 2-0 edge. The next bucket didn't come until 5:28 when Meadow Tisdale cut across the lane and converted on a tough layup to extend the lead to 4-0. Cumberlands' Emaligh Tarpley knocked down the first bucket for the Phoenix at 5:02 to cut the lead to 4-2. Claire Fleming found Tisdale down low at 3:54 to extend the lead back to 6-2. With 2:40 left Tisdale connected on two free throws, growing the lead to 8-3. Tisdale knocked down the back-end of a set of free throws at 1:10 to give the Blue Raiders a 9-7 lead to end the first quarter. 

Phoenix Braley Bushman knocked down a jumper at 9:42 to even the game at 9-9, followed by a layup from Ever Walker at 9:15 to take an 11-9 advantage over Lindsey Wilson. Natalie Gentry came in off the bench and made her way to the rim to tie the game at 11-11 with 8:52 left in the first half. Shelton made an easy lay in at 8:20 to give LWU back a 13-11 lead. Taylor Guess weaved her way through the paint at 7:10 to draw a foul and connect on two free throws to increase the lead to 15-12. Jarie Thomas knocked down two free throws at 6:21 to grow the lead to 17-12 but was met with a three from Cumberlands' Maddie Brillhart to cut the lead to 17-15 with 6:08 on the clock. A layup from Phoenix Ty Buckley at 5:04 tied the game back at 17-17 but was answered with a layup from Guess to push the lead back to 19-17. Lindsey Wilson went on a 9-4 run to end the half, extending the lead to 28-21 headed into the locker room. 

From 9:34 to 8:19 both teams traded layups back and forth with Shelton connecting on two and Guess contributing one of her own to grow the lead to 34-27. Tisdale made her way back to the line at 7:57 knocking down two free throws for a 36-27 lead. Tarpley answered back with a layup but was answered once again with a layup from Tisdale for a 38-29 lead for LWU with 7:04 on the clock. Tisdale maneuvered her way through the paint at 6:23 for a tough and-one to grow the lead to double-digits at 41-31. With 5:02 on the clock, Walker went to the line for a chance at two and knocked down both to cut the lead back to single digits at 41-33. Two more free throws from Phoenix Riley Long at 4:25 cut it to a six-point ball game but was quickly answered by a layup and-one from Isabel Garcia at 4:03 to extend the lead back to 44-35.

 Back-to-back layups from Cumberland cut the Blue Raider lead to 44-39 with 3:16 on the clock. Guess went to the line with 2:58 left in the third and knocked down one to push the lead to 45-39. A free throw from Buckley and layup from Long cut the lead to 45-42 with 2:47 on the clock. Tisdale knocked down a jumper at 2:47 to increase the lead to 47-42 but was met with two free throws from Bushman at 2:05 and another free throw at 1:27 to, cutting the lead to 47-45. Guess grabbed a steal at 0:56 and went coast-to-coast, knocking down a layup to grow the lead to 49-45. Amelia Hodges grabbed a steal the next possession and drew a foul to head to the line with 0:33 left in the quarter, knocking down both for a 51-45 advantage. With 0:06 left on the clock, Fleming drew a foul and went to the free throw line to knock down both and give Lindsey Wilson a 53-48 lead headed into the final ten minutes of play. 

Hodges opened the fourth quarter scoring with a layup at 8:52 to grow the lead to 55-48. Hodges picked up another steal with 8:11 on the clock and found Thomas for a jumper at 8:07, growing the lead to 57-48. Guess grabbed an offensive board and was fouled on the put back, knocking down a free throw to extend the lead to 58-48 with 6:40 left in regulation. Shelton found Garcia underneath for a lay in at 6:02 to push the lead to 60-49. Buckley knocked down a three at 5:15 to cut the lead to 60-52, but was answered with a layup from Hodges at 4:45 for a 62-52 score. Fleming grabbed a defensive rebound and found Garcia underneath for an easy lay-in at 2:53, followed by a Cox offensive board and layup at 2:08 to extend the lead to 67-52. Buckley knocked down two free throws followed by a layup from Phoenix Faith Colston at 1:24 to cut the lead to 67-56. Hodges knocked down two late free throws with 0:42 left to put the Blue Raiders ahead for a final score of 71-59. 

Women's hoops will be back in action on Monday in Georgetown, Kentucky to face the (RV) Tigers at 4:30 P.M. CT inside the Davis-Reid Alumni Gym.
