Women’s Wrestling Sends Six to Finals at Midland Open

FREMONT, Neb. – The No. 5-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's wrestling team had a strong showing Saturday at the Midland University Open.
 
The Blue Raiders had six wrestlers reach the finals in their respective weight classes and posted six additional top-eight finishes.
 
Hayeni Costa (No. 8 at 207) and Cheyenne Cruce advanced to the finals at 207 where they took a double forfeit. Costa opened her tournament with back-to-back pins of Hailey Conley of Fort Hayes State and Alexis Llamas (No. 16 at 207) of Hastings. She advanced to the finals with a 6-0 decision over Audre Herron of Iowa Western.
 
Cruce earned an 11-0 tech fall over Hastings' Taylor Rickley (No. 14 at 207) in the first round. She advanced to the semifinals with a pin of Minnesota North's Joy Kral in 1:02. Cruce defeated teammate Taylor Schiesser 9-4 in the semifinals.
 
Reagan Thomas (No. 10 at 110) posted a runner-up finish at 110 pounds. Thomas reached the finals with three tech falls. She opened her tournament with a 12-2 tech fall over Baillee Cash of Iowa Western. In the quarterfinals, Thomas picked up a 14-4 tech fall against Mileena Notaro of Southeast CC. Thomas advanced to the finals with a 12-0 tech fall over Raelynn O'Connor of Hastings. Baker's Kylie Robledo (No. 15 at 110) defeated Thomas 12-2 in the finals.
 
 
Grace Lashinsky (No. 5 at 117) finished runner-up in the 117-pound bracket. Lashinsky pinned Missouri Baptist's Andrea Karagiannis in just 28 seconds in the first round. In the quarterfinals, she pinned Hailey Medina of Iowa Western. Lashinsky recorded her third pin in the semifinals over Jasimen Ortega of Southwest CC. Cailin Campbell (No. 7 at 117) defeated Lashinsky 10-0 in the finals.
 
Kori Campbell (No. 8 at 145) posted a runner-up finish at 145 pounds. Campbell opened her tournament with a 4-2 decision over Ayana Fletcher of Iowa Western. She advanced to the semifinals with back-to-back pins of Jade Martin from Baker and Koryn Klein of Southeast CC. Campbell earned a hard-fought 2-1 decision over William Penn's Jalyiah Gardner in the semifinals. Grand View's Madison Diaz defeated Campbell 10-0 in the finals.
 
Kaitlyn Lewis finished second at 180 pounds. Lewis opened her tournament with back-to-back pins of Faith Barrett and Emily Novak of Jamestown. She advanced to the finals on an injury default in the semifinals. Lewis was defeated 12-2 by William Penn's Piper Fowler (No. 9 at 160).
 
Larissa Gallo placed third in the 180-pound bracket. Gallo pinned Chadron's Maria Arellano in 30 seconds in the second round before dropping a 12-4 decision to Fowler in the quarterfinals. She then rattled off four straight wins in the consolation bracket to finish third. Gallo pinned Hayden Marks of Hastings in just 25 seconds before earning a 10-1 decision over Arellano.
 
Skyler Randolph (No. 19 at 103)  finished fourth at 103 pounds. Randolph opened her tournament with a pin in 29 seconds over Indian Hills' Jamiyah Blount-Taylor (No. 3 in NJCAA at 103). She advanced to the semifinals with a pin in 48 seconds over Lillian Hackworth of Missouri Baptist. In the semifinals, Randolph was pinned by Bertha Cabrera of Southeast CC. Randolph advanced to the third-place match with another pin of Blount-Taylor.  She was pinned in the third-place match by Almarwa Alkhalil.
 
Callie Payton (No. 11 at 117) finished fourth at 117 pounds. Payton earned a 10-0 tech fall over Dakota Wesleyan's Kaylei Hinck and picked up a 14-3 tech fall against Rosalia Rubio of Iowa Western in the quarterfinals. Campbell defeated Payton 9-2 in the semifinals. She pinned Medina in the consolation semifinals before dropping an 11-8 decision to Rosalia Rubio in the third-place match.
 
Jaden Evans finished fifth at 124 pounds. Evans opened her tournament with back-to-back pins of Audrey Scherer of Grand View and Karen Goitia-Cortez of Southeast CC. She was defeated 10-0 in the semifinals by Victoria Baez Dilone (No. 4 at 124) of William Penn. Evans fell to the fifth-place match after falling to Dani Ringstmeyer of Sioux Falls in the consolation semifinal. She pinned Baker's Kylee Slyter in 1:58 to finish fifth.
 
Schiesser pinned Baker's Kara Pope in just 55 seconds in the first round. She advanced to the semifinals after an injury default. Following the loss to Cruce, Schiesser was pinned by Rickley in the consolation semifinals. She earned fifth with an 8-3 decision over Conley
 
Rodiat Adeduntan placed sixth in the 110-pound bracket. Adeduntan was pinned in the first round before rattling off three straight consolation victories. She earned a 14-3 tech fall over Chevy Coleman of Iowa Western and then picked up a 9-2 decision over Notaro. Adeduntan advanced to the consolation semifinals with a 6-1 decision over teammate Payton Agnell. She then dropped her next two matches to finish sixth.
 
The Blue Raiders return to action on Saturday, February 7, hosting the Lindsey Wilson Women's Open beginning at 10 a.m. CT at the Holloway Health and Wellness Center.
