Blue Raiders Fall to No.3 Tigers in Mid-South Conference Opener

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky.- The Blue Raiders fell against the No.3-ranked Tigers of Campbellsville (Ky.) 83-53 in their Mid-South Conference opener Thursday night in the Powell Athletic Center. 

Saniyah Shelton led the Lindsey Wilson offense and rebounding with 12 points on 4-of-7 from the field, 2-of-4 from behind the arc, and 2-of-2 at the line with six boards. 

Jarie Thomas opened the scoring 19 seconds into the first quarter with a short corner jumper for 2-0 lead. Campbellsville's Tyra Flowers tied the game at 2-2 with 9:20 on the clock. The Tigers went on a 4-0 run to lead LWU 6-2 with 7:03 on the clock. A layup from Taylor Guess at 4:28 put the Blue Raider trailing 8-6. With 3:50 on the clock, Amelia Hodges gave the lead back to Lindsey Wilson after draining a three pointer, edging the Blue Raiders up 9-8. Campbellsville closed the quarter on a 11-4 run after three back to back layups and an and-one from Dea Bradly to increase the Tiger lead to 19-13. 

Thomas knocked down a jumper at 8:18 to end the Tigers 4-0 run to start the quarter, cutting the Blue Raider deficit to 23-15. With 4:32 on the clock, Guess converted on two free throws to end a 15-0 Campbellsville run and chip away the deficit to 38-17. At 3:13, Hodges forced a turnover and picked up a steal and an open court layup for a 40-21 difference. Emily Cox picked up a steal with 0:14 on the clock before the half and finished a layup on the other end for a 48-26 score headed into halftime. 

Saniyah Shelton opened the second half scoring with a three ball on an assist from Hodges at 9:32 to cut the deficit to 48-29. Shelton came back down the floor and knocked down another three at 8:13 to cut the Tiger lead to 54-32. Isabel Garcia connected on a basket on an assist from Shelton at 7:28 for a 54-34 deficit. A tough jumper from Claire Fleming with 0:03 on the clock ended a 16-0 Campbellsville run for the Blue Raiders to trail 70-36 headed into the final ten minutes.

Lindsey Wilson went on to outscore Campbellsville 17-13 in the fourth quarter, falling 83-53 in the Powell Athletic Center.

Women's hoops will be back in action on Saturday at 1 P.M. CT in Biggers Sports Center to face the Phoenix of Cumberland University (Tenn.).
