COLUMBIA, Ky. - Lindsey Wilson student-athlete Max Gainey has been selected as the Mid-South Conference Football Offensive Player of the Week, conference officials announced Monday.
 
Gainey, of Louisville, Kentucky, earns his second career weekly honor, after hauling in a program-record five touchdowns in the Blue Raiders' 76-0 win over Andrew (Ga.). All five of his touchdowns occurred in the first half with four coming in the first quarter. Gainey caught seven passes for 164 yards.
 
His first touchdown was for 17 yards just 1:14 into the game. Gainey's second score totaled 53 yards, while his third score went for 31. His final two scores went for 32 and seven yards, respectively. Along with the single-game record, Gainey also set the new record for touchdowns in a season with his third of the day and is now at 16 for the year. Gainey now just needs three yards to set the single season receiving yards record and sits just five touchdowns shy of the career record.
 
Gainey's 16 receiving touchdowns leads the NAIA, while is 117.1 yards per game rank fifth. He has recorded 150 or more yards in four games this season and has scored multiple touchdowns five times.
 
Gainey and the Blue Raiders are back in action on Saturday for a MSC matchup at Cumberland (Tenn.) at 1:30 p.m. CT.
