No. 13 Women’s Basketball Upsets No. 2 Freed-Hardeman 55-52

COLUMBIA, Ky.- The No. 13-ranked Blue Raider women's basketball team defeated the No. 2 Lions of Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) 55-52 Thursday night in Brewer Sports Center.

Meadow Tisdale led the offense with 14 points and seven rebounds. Saniyah Shelton added 13 points and seven rebounds while Taylor Guess rounded out the double-figure scoring with 11 points and seven rebounds.

Guess opened the Blue Raider scoring, knocking down two free throws and a jumpshot to give Lindsey Wilson a 4-3 lead with 7:01 on the clock. From 5:21 to 2:59, Freed-Hardeman went on a 7-0 run to take a 12-7 lead. Lindsey Wilson closed the quarter on a 4-2 run to trail 14-11 headed into the second quarter.

Tisdale got an offensive rebound and put back at 9:34 to cut the deficit to 14-13. Back-to-back threes from Emily Cox and Guess gave LWU a 25-24 lead with 1:19 left in the first half. A layup from Lion Ally Weathers sparked a 4-0 FHU run to give Freed-Hardeman the 28-25 edge headed into halftime. 

A defensive rebound by Shelton, leading to a Guess Jumper at 8:48, opened the second half scoring for a 28-27 LWU deficit with 8:48 on the clock. Shelton picked up a steal which led to a fast break jumper at 5:29 to give Lindsey Wilson a 31-30 lead. A layup from Tisdale at 4:41 sparked a 5-3 Blue Raider run to take a 36-34 lead with 3:34 on the clock. Freed-Hardeman knocked down back-to-back buckets to take a 38-36 edge over the Blue Raiders headed into the final ten minutes of action. 

Tisdale forced a turnover and steal at 9:29 to convert on a fastbreak layup to tie the game at 38-38 with 9:24 left in the fourth quarter. An offensive rebound and put back from Shelton at 8:22 gave LWU a 40-38 lead. Both teams traded buckets from 7:57 to 3:24 with the Blue Raiders holding on to a 46-45 advantage. Lindsey Wilson went on a 4-0 run from 3:02 to 1:15 to extend the lead to 50-45. With 0:16 on the clock FHU cut the LWU lead to 53-52 forcing the Blue Raiders to in-bound underneath the Lions basket. Amelia Hodges broke loose on the press break and was fouled and sent to the line knocking down two free throws with 0:08 on the clock to lead 55-52. Freed-Hardeman attempted a three at the buzzer, coming up short for a 55-52 final in favor of Lindsey Wilson. 

Women's hoops will be back in action on Saturday in McKenzie, Tennessee to face the No. 3 Wildcats of Bethel (Tenn.) at 1 P.M. CT inside Crisp Arena.
