Softball Runs Win Streak to 10 With Two Victories on Day Two of Gulf Shores Invitational

GULF SHORES, Ala. - The No. 25-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball team extended its winning streak with two wins on the second day of the Gulf Shores Invitational on Saturday at Gulf Shores Five Plex.
 
The Blue Raiders have now won their last 10 games, improving their record to 16-2. Lindsey Wilson opened the day with a 2-1 victory over Point (Ga.) and then defeated Brenau (Ga.) 5-2.
 
Sam Hartman led the Lindsey Wilson offense against Point, going 2-for-3, driving in both runs. Hallie Roberts picked up her sixth win of the season, pitching 6-1/3 innings, allowing one run on seven hits with one walk and four strikeouts. Kayden Murray recorded her third save of the season, pitching 0.2 innings of relief, striking out both batters she faced.
 
Kaiden Rodgers went 3-for-4 in the win over Brenau while Nora Epley and Hartman each had a pair of hits. Hannah Carter drove in three runs with a home run. Murray improved to 9-1 pitching a complete game. She allowed two runs on two hits, with three hit batters, while striking out 12. She has now recorded double-digit strike outs in four games this season.
 
 
Game One: No. 25 Lindsey Wilson 2, Point 1
Point struck first in the top of the second. Alexa McCoy reached on a leadoff walk and advanced to second on a stolen base. Mackenzie Diaz drove in McCory, giving the Skyhawks the 1-0 lead. Hartman led off the bottom of the second with her first home run of the season to tie the game.
 
The Skyhawks recorded back-to-back one-out singles in the fourth before Roberts retired the next two batters, ending the threat. Lindsey Wilson recorded its second hit on a leadoff single by Aubrey Miller in the bottom of the fifth. Natalie Wandrie reached on a two-out double in the bottom of the sixth. Hartman gave the Blue Raiders a 2-1 lead
 
Avery Lee led off the top of the seventh for Point, reaching on a single to right. Caroline Bagwell came in to run for Lee and advanced to second on a strikeout after a throwing error by the Blue Raider catcher. Taylor Gajdik singled to center putting runners on the corners with one out. Murray came in and struck out the next two Point batters to secure the win for Lindsey Wilson.
 
Game Two: No. 25 Lindsey Wilson 5, Brenau 2
Rodgers doubled to center with two outs before Wandrie drove her in with a single to left giving Lindsey Wilson a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. The Tigers tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a bases-loaded hit batter.
 
Emma Folds led off the bottom of the second for Brenau, reaching on a walk. Later in the inning, Folds stole second and advanced to third on the play on a Blue Raider error. Ava Moon drove in Folds to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead.
 
Epley led off the top of the third with a single to center and later stole second. Rodgers reached on a single to center field. After Wandrie reached on a fielder's choice, Hartman doubled to left, scoring Rodgers and tying the game. Carter then hit her second home run of the season to give Lindsey Wilson the 5-2 lead. Over the final five innings, Brenau only had one runner in scoring position. Murray finished the game striking out two of the final three batters for her eight complete game of the season.
 
The Blue Raiders close out the Gulf Shores Invitational on Sunday at 11:15 a.m. CT, taking on No. 8 Central Methodist (Mo.) at Gulf Shores Five Plex.
