Dominant Pitching Leads No. 11 Softball Past Ohio Christian

COLUMBIA, Ky. - Kayden Murray fired her second career no-hitter to headline Blue Raider softball's twin bill sweep of Ohio Christian on Tuesday.

The junior tossed six hitless innings in game two and allowed only two base runners while striking out 11. Game one's tandem of Hallie Roberts and Grace Adams combined to hold the Trailblazers to one run on two hits, rounding out another outstanding day for Lindsey Wilson's pitching staff.

At the plate, Kaiden Rodgers drove in four runs on two hits, and Summer Ray contributed three RBIs on three hits.

Game One: No. 11 Lindsey Wilson 5, Ohio Christian 1

The Blue Raiders came out swinging in the first inning. Sam Hartman was heard from first on the first pitch she faced. Her fourth home run of the year came to rest beyond the left center field fence and score Nora Epley with it. Then, two batters later, Emerson McKinnis squared up a 2-1 pitch and punched it out to right field for her seventh long ball of the season.

Lindsey Wilson added to its lead in the fourth inning when Atavya Fowler singled home Aubrey Miller, who had led off the frame with a double. The same frame, Rodgers grounded out an infield hit to plate Fowler and push the home team's edge to 5-0.

Ohio Christian etched its only run of the day in the top half of the fifth inning, breaking up Roberts' perfect start after 4 2/3 innings. She closed her book, however, with her fourth strikeout of the game, before Adams entered to pitch the final two innings and keep the Trailblazers scoreless on one hit.

Game Two: No. 11 Lindsey Wilson 8, Ohio Christian 0 (6 Innings)

Murray recorded the first of her 11 strikeouts to end the top leg of the first inning. In doing so, becoming the fifth pitcher in program history to reach 500 career strikeouts.

The next half-inning, Ray ignited the Blue Raider offense with a two-run RBI-double scorched down the left field line.

After Murray retired the top of the second in order on strikes, Rodgers dropped a two-out single into left field to score Kaylen Newton and increase Lindsey Wilson's advantage to 3-0.

Ray shined again in the third frame as she belted the first pitch of her at-bat to left field. The solo shot was her third of the year. Then, in the fourth, Rodgers' base hit to the outfield pushed home Newton and Melaina Tucker.

Following a scoreless fifth inning, and another 1-2-3 effort from the defense, Lindsey Wilson quickly put two runners on in its half of the sixth. Epley reached on a walk and Rodgers earned first after being hit by a pitch. The next at-bat, McKinnis ripped a double to left field, plating Epley and moving Rodgers to third base.

An infield timeout by the Trailblazers gave the Blue Raiders a chance to discuss their next move, which turned out to be an attempt at a squeeze bunt. The pitch, however, popped off the catcher's glove, and with Rodgers breaking for home, fell in front of the plate. Rodgers crashed into the chaos at the dish and was ultimately ruled safe to end the game.

Lindsey Wilson travels to Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) for a crucial Mid-South series April 17-18.
