COLUMBIA, Ky. - An extra-inning, come-from-behind victory capped a twin bill split for No. 11 Lindsey Wilson softball against (RV) Campbellsville (Ky.) on Thursday at Marilyn D. Sparks Park.
Kaiden Rodgers produced a team-high four hits, including the go-ahead double in game two.
Natalie Wandrie and
Sam Hartman each had three hits, and
Atavya Fowler delivered three RBIs on a clutch home run in the nightcap.
Game One: No. 11 Lindsey Wilson 1, (RV) Campbellsville 8
The Blue Raiders scored the game's opening run in the bottom of the second inning as a passed ball skid through the Tigers' catcher and plated Wandrie.
Campbellsville, however, put up a four-piece in the next half-inning and proceeded to scatter four more runs across the remaining four innings.
Lindsey Wilson's best chance to respond came in the bottom of the fifth off back-to-back singles by
Nora Epley and Rodgers, but the Tigers induced consecutive flyouts to end the threat and held the hosts without a hit the rest of the way.
Hallie Roberts tossed a complete-game effort and was charged five earned runs on eight hits while striking out two.
Game Two: No. 11 Lindsey Wilson 6, (RV) Campbellsville 5 (8 Innings)
Campbellsville broke out to a 4-0 lead after two innings and carried that advantage into the fourth.
In the bottom of the fourth frame,
Aubrey Miller led off with a four-pitch walk, then advanced on a wild pitch before
Summer Ray singled to put runners at the corners. Fowler kept Lindsey Wilson's mojo churning on the next at-bat, launching a three-run bomb to left center field.
A base hit with an added error off the bat of Epley put the tying the run at third base, which Hartman subsequently pushed across on a single of her own to knot the score at 4-4.
The Tigers regained the lead in the top leg of the fifth but were limited to just one hit over the next three innings. During that stretch,
Kayden Murray picked up three of her seven strikeouts and allowed only one additional base runner, courtesy of a walk.
With the defense clicking, the Blue Raider offense went back to work in the bottom of the sixth. A single by Hartman was ultimately misplayed by the Tigers' outfield, sending Hartman all the way to third base. Then, Wandrie skied out a sacrifice fly to tie the game, again, at 5-5.
Both sides came up empty in the seventh, and in the eighth the Tigers were sent down in order.
Fowler earned a spot on first base to lead off the Blue Raiders' half of the eighth inning after being hit by a pitch and moved up to second off a sacrifice bunt by Epley. The bat was passed to Rodgers who, on a 2-2 pitch, plastered a ball off the left field fence to score Fowler and win the game.
Murray collected the victory in the circle for Lindsey Wilson as she fired eight innings and surrendered one earned run on eight hits.
Game three is slated for 4 p.m. CT on Friday, April 24.
