BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson women's golf team posted a third-place finish at the Mid-South Conference Championship on Tuesday at Bowling Green Country Club.
Following the conclusion of the championship, the MSC announced the regular season awards and All-Conference teams.
Kayla Saunders and
Thanaporn Buakong earned First Team All-Conference honors, while
Tara Laverty was named to the Second Team.
The Blue Raiders carded a 74-over-par 938 (310-314-314), finishing five shots behind Conference Champions Cumberlands (Ky.). Cumberland (Tenn.) finished runner-up with a 937. Over the three rounds, Lindsey Wilson carded the third-most birdies with 19 and had the second-most pars with 138.
Saunders took home medalist honors with a 7-over-par 223 (74-75-74). With the victory, she earns an automatic bid into the NAIA National Championship beginning on May 19 at Eagle Crest Golf Course in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Saunders was the only player in the tournament under par on par-3s at -1. She tied for the third-most birdies with six and tied for the most pars with 33.
Holly Murphy finished seventh with a 236 (77-79-80). Murphy was one of just three golfers under par on par 5s at -1. Laverty finished tied for 11th with a 239 (77-82-80), while Buakong (82-81-84) and
Amanda Sitohang (88-79-80) finished tied for 21st with a 247.
The Blue Raiders now wait to see if they have earned an at-large bid into the NAIA National Championship. The championship field is scheduled to be released on Friday, May 8.
