MOBILE, Ala. – The No. 2-seeded Lindsey Wilson women's tennis team defeated No. 7 seed LSU Alexandria (La.) 4-2 in the NAIA Tournament Quarterfinals on Thursday at the Mobile Tennis Center.
With the victory, the Blue Raiders improve to 18-1 and advance to Friday's Semifinals against third-seeded Tennessee Wesleyan at 1 p.m. CT. This marks the third straight season Lindsey Wilson has advanced to the National Semifinals. The two teams last met on May 16, 2024, in the NAIA Quarterfinals with the Blue Raiders earning the 4-3 victory.
Heyka Rodriguez and
Javiera Verdugo (No. 3 doubles in NAIA) defeated Nahia Echaide and Lucie Ivanova (No. 25 doubles) 6-2 in the top-seeded doubles match.
Mariangeles Mateu and
Blanca Trillo Pita da Veiga (No. 38) clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 victory over Estella Gonzalez and Isabella Stuurman at No. 3.
Trillo pushed the Lindsey Wilson lead to 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Ekaterina Orlova (No. 53) at No. 5 singles. Stuurman defeated
Martina Cortal (No. 51) 6-3, 6-4, making it 2-1. Verdugo (No. 12) defeated Joline Roesch 6-1, 6-4.
Echaide (No. 13) defeated
Mayra Gisone (No. 9) 6-4. 6-4 in the top-seeded singles match. Mateu (No. 42) clinched the match for the Blue Raiders at No. 3. Mateu took the first set over Ivanova (No. 45) 6-1. Ivanova responded by winning the second set 6-3. Ivanova jumped out to a 5-1 lead in set three before Mateu rallied, forcing the third-set tie break. In the tie break, Mateu continued her momentum, winning the tiebreak 7-0.
First serve between Lindsey Wilson and Tennessee Wesleyan in Friday's NAIA Semifinal match is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT at the Mobile Tennis Center.
