Davontaye Saunders has been selected as the Mid-South Conference Football Offensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
Saunders, of Eminence, Kentucky, earns his sixth career weekly honor after rushing for 177 yards and three touchdowns all in the first half in the Blue Raiders' 52-24 season-opening victory over Reinhardt (Ga.).
The senior averaged 17 yards per carry in the win and went over 150 yards for the seventh time in his career. Saunders' second carry went for 69 yards on Lindsey Wilson's first drive. His first touchdown tallied two yards. Saunders scored his second touchdown on a 51-yard run on the first play of the Blue Raiders' fifth drive. His final touchdown was also from two-yards out.
Saunders is now second all-time in career rushing yards with 2,271. His three touchdowns moved him into fifth all-time in program history with 26.
Saunders and the Blue Raiders return to action on Saturday, hosting hosting Ave Maria (Fla.) at 7 p.m. CT at Parnell Family Stadium.
