BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Max Gainey set the single-game receiving yards record on Saturday in No. 12 Lindsey Wilson's 49-17 victory against Union Commonwealth (Ky.) at Williamson Stadium.
Gainey hauled in nine passes for a program-record 230 yards while tying a program record with three touchdowns. He broke the previous record of 215 that was set in 2025. Gainey has now recorded over 100 yards in seven games in his career and over 150 yards four times.
Tate Rice completed 13 of his 18 passes for 256 yards, throwing for three touchdowns and one interception. Rice has now thrown for over 250 yards four times in his career and has recorded three or more touchdowns 11 times.
Davontaye Saunders ran for 175 yards on 21 carries and had three touchdowns. With his three touchdowns, Saunders now has 35 career rushing touchdowns, which ranks second all-time. He has now eclipsed the 100-yard mark 12 times in his career and has gone over 150 yards nine times.
Stevin Mack tallied eight carries for 48 yards and a touchdown.
Jayden Walker and
Letavion Everly led the Lindsey Wilson (4-1) defense with six tackles apiece. Walker and
Kelson McKinney each recorded an interception for the Blue Raiders.
Coty Johnson II led the way with two tackles for loss, while
Michael Hinton added 1.5.
Lindsey Wilson outgained Union Commonwealth (0-4) 486-229 and limited the Bulldogs to just 69 rushing yards on 28 carries. This marks the fourth time this season the Blue Raiders have tallied over 450 yards of offense and have scored 40 or more points. This is the third time this season Lindsey Wilson has held its opponent to under 100 rushing yards.
The Bulldogs ran the opening kick back 91 yards to the Lindsey Wilson three. Lindsey Wilson stopped Union Commonwealth on its first three rushing attempts, forcing a 4th-and-goal situation. Qua Powell punched it in from one yard out, giving the Bulldogs a 7-0 lead with 12:45 to play in the first. After a Lindsey Wilson three-and-out, McKinney intercepted the Cooper Wick pass at the Bulldog 37. The Blue Raiders capitalized on the turnover with Saunders scoring on a nine-yard run on the second play of the drive with 8:42 remaining in the quarter. Following a Union Commonwealth punt, Saunders added his second touchdown of the day.
The Blue Raiders forced the second Union Commonwealth interception when Walker took the ball off a deflection off a Bulldog receiver. Walker returned the ball 18 yards to the Union Commonwealth 27. On the second play of the drive, Mack ran it 13 yards to increase the Lindsey Wilson lead to 21-7.
The two teams traded possessions for much of the second quarter. Lindsey Wilson finally got the offense going in the second quarter with a nine-play, 78-yard scoring drive. Rice capped the drive by finding Gainey for 24 yards, extending the Lindsey Wilson lead to 28-7 with 4:18 to play in the half.
Cole Raeuchle capped an eight-play, 31-yard drive with a 35-yard field goal to make it 28-10 with 1:39 to play in the half. Union Commonwealth intercepted a Rice pass on the drive's second play, taking over at the Lindsey Wilson 22. The Blue Raider defense responded, stopping the Bulldogs on fourth down with four seconds left in the half.
On their second possession of the second half, the Blue Raiders' drive got extended on a roughing the punter penalty. Lindsey Wilson took advantage of the new set of downs, scoring two plays later when Rice found Gainey for 71 yards, making it 35-10. The Bulldogs responded with a six-play, 80-yard touchdown drive to trim the Lindsey Wilson lead to 35-17 with 6:06 to play in the third quarter.
On the ensuing kickoff,
Jamahl Gentry gave the Blue Raiders great field position with a 55-yard return to the Union Commonwealth 45. On the first play of the drive, Saunders took it 45 yards for his third touchdown, making it 42-17. Lindsey Wilson's final touchdown came early in the fourth quarter when Rice found Gainey for a third time, pushing the Lindsey Wilson lead to 49-17 with 13:46 to play.
The Blue Raiders return home next week to open Mid-South Conference play against No. 9 Campbellsville (Ky.) in The Battle of Highway 55 at 1:30 p.m. CT at Parnell Family Stadium.
