John B. Wethington

John B. Wethington will coach his 37th season of Lindsey Wilson women’s basketball in 2025-26.

Entering this latest campaign, he ranks first on the NAIA’s active all-time wins list with 714 career victories.

Over his three decades of coaching, Wethington has guided the Blue Raiders women’s basketball program to three Mid-South Conference regular-season championships, five Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular-season titles, and 19 appearances in the NAIA National Championship.

He has also led six different NAIA All-Americans, two WBCA-NAIA All-Americans, five Mid-South Conference Players of the Year, five Mid-South Conference Freshmen of the Year, and 26 Mid-South All-Conference selections while earning the conference’s Coach of the Year accolade three times, in 2007, 2008, and 2020. He also garnered KIAC Coach of the Year status in 1991, 1997, and 1999.

Wethington’s most successful season came in 2016-17 as Lindsey Wilson made its second consecutive visit to the NAIA National Tournament Quarterfinals behind a program-best record of 32-3. That year, the team claimed a share of the conference regular-season crown, rattled off a season-opening 27-game win streak, and ranked as high as No. 2 in the NAIA national coaches poll.

Historically, Wethington recorded his 700th career win on November 1, 2024, his 600th career win on January 28, 2019, his 500th on November 7, 2015, his 400th on November 5, 2010, his 300th on November 12, 2005, his 200th on November 30, 1999, and his 100th on January 21, 1995.

Before being named head coach at Lindsey Wilson in 1989, Wethington spent two seasons as an assistant coach for the women’s program.

He graduated from Western Kentucky in 1987 and served as head manager for the men’s basketball program, which was coached by former college and NBA star Clem Haskins.

Wethington was also a student assistant coach at Lindsey Wilson during the 1982-83 and 1983-84 seasons.

Wethington and his wife, Shelia, have two children, Mason and Brenna.
