David Dews

  • Title
    Head Coach

David Dews begins his eighth season as the Lindsey Wilson head softball coach in 2020-21.

Dews guided the Blue Raiders to a 12-1 record in 2020 before the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He led the Blue Raiders to national postseason appearances in his first six seasons at the helm of the program, including three appearances in the NAIA Softball World Series. He made back-to-back NAIA Softball World Series appearances in 2014 and 2015, before accomplishing the feat again during the 2019 campaign. His team finished as the national runner-up in 2015. In his five seasons with the Blue Raiders, Dews boasts a 281-67 record with a 138-20 mark in Mid-South Conference play. He has recorded 39 or more wins in all six seasons at LWC. Entering the 2020 season, Dews owns an overall collegiate coaching record of 576-183.

In 2019, he led the Blue Raiders to a 52-5 overall record and a 21-1 marking in conference play. The Blue Raiders won both the MSC regular season and tournament championships. They advanced to their seventh NAIA National Championship Opening Round, winning the bracket to advance to the program's third NAIA Softball World Series to finish the season with a No. 6 national ranking.

He led the Blue Raiders to a 40-16 overall record and 17-7 mark in conference play during the 2018 season and the program's sixth-consecutive NAIA National Championship Opening Round appearance. Lindsey Wilson rolled off 13 victories in a row during the month of March. Included in that span was Dews picking up his 500th career-coaching victory in a 9-0 win over Hiwassee (Tenn.) on March 16, 2018.

In 2017, Dews guided the Blue Raiders to the Mid-South Conference regular season title with a 21-1 mark in conference play and the program's fifth-straight appearance in the NAIA Opening Round. Lindsey Wilson finished the year with a 39-13 mark, adding a 22-game win streak throughout the campaign. For his efforts, Dews was selected as the 2017 MSC Coach of the Year, his second career award after also earning the honor in 2014.

The 2016 season saw Lindsey Wilson advance to the NAIA Softball Opening Round championship game and win 25 games in a row during the season. A 47-14 record marked the seventh season in a row for the program to eclipse the 40-win plateau.

Lindsey Wilson set historic program marks in 2015, recording the most wins in a single season (53), most-consecutive victories (33), a No. 2 national ranking, and claimed their fifth Mid-South Conference Tournament title in the past six seasons.

In his first season with the program, Dews led the Blue Raiders to a fifth-place finish at the NAIA Softball World Series, the furthest Lindsey Wilson had ever advanced in the postseason. He also helped Lindsey Wilson win their fifth-consecutive Mid-South Conference regular season title.

During the 2014 season, the Blue Raiders broke numerous program records including hitting 89 home runs, the fifth-most in NAIA history. Dews also saw two major individual records fall as two Blue Raiders set new marks as the all-time wins leader and all-time home runs leader.

In his six seasons at Lindsey Wilson, Dews has coached 14 NAIA All-American honorees, 19 NAIA Scholar-Athletes, 78 Academic All Mid-South Conference selections, 48 All-MSC selections, and nine Gold Glove recipients, as well as the 2019 MSC Player of the year, 2019 MSC Pitcher of the Year, 2018 MSC Freshman of the Year, 2017 MSC Pitcher of the Year, 2016 MSC Freshman of the Year, 2015 MSC Player of the Year and the 2014 MSC Pitcher of the Year. Under Dews' guidance, Amanda Trampe became the first two-time First Team NAIA All-American in program history in 2015.

Prior to joining Lindsey Wilson, Dews saw six successful seasons as the head coach at Darton State (Ga.).

He led Darton State to a pair of National Junior College Athletic Association World Series appearances, including a fifth-place finish during the 2011 national tournament.

His Darton State teams won four Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association regular season titles and a pair of state championships. Last season, Dews' team finished 37-15 and tied for second place in the GCAA with a 12-4 conference mark. He owns a 231-79 career record at Darton State.

In his six seasons at Darton State, Dews helped more than 40 student-athletes move on to play at a four-year institution.

Prior to taking over the Darton State program, Dews served two seasons as head coach at Lurleen B. Wallace Community College (Ala.) and four seasons as the head assistant at Wallace Community College (Ala.).

Dews graduated from Auburn University in 1999. He and his wife, Leigh, have three children, Konnor, Charleigh and Pearson.
