FRANKFORT, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College men's basketball team won its second consecutive Mid-South Conference Tournament title this afternoon by beating Pikeville (Ky.) College 80-61 at the Frankfort Civic Center.
The Blue Raiders, ranked No. 4 in the NAIA, advance to the NAIA Men's Basketball Tournament, to be played March 16-22 in Kansas City, Mo. The tournament's pairings will be announced on Wednesday.
The No. 2-seed Blue Raiders turned in a workmanlike performance, dominating the No. 4-seed Bears (24-9) 40-24 on the boards and shutting down Pikeville's leading scorers.
Lindsey Wilson (29-3) led 36-18 at the half, on the strength of 12-of-15 free-throw shooting and a 24-11 rebound advantage.
The Blue Raiders led by as many as 27 points in the second half before the Bears responded with a run to cut the lead to 11.
But Blue Raider seniors
John Spivey and
Cetric Anderson were too much for the Bears. Spivey scored a game-high 29 points, most either in the paint or at the free-throw line, and Anderson connected on 9-of-14 from the field for 20 points.
Pikeville was led by Jerrell Jones' 14 points.
