BEREA, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College women's cross country team won their first meet of the season, while the men finished sixth on Saturday at the Berea (Ky.) College Invitational.
The women's win was their first under first-year head coach Edwin Hagans and the first since the 1999 season.
Lindsey Wilson sophomore Kamila Bocian led the Blue Raiders winning the race with a time of 20 minutes 1.50 seconds over the 5,000 meter course. Bocian, a Druzbice, Poland, native, bested second place by more than seven seconds en route to the first win of her career.
Bocian's time helped the Blue Raiders score a season-best 64 points. King (Tenn.) College finished second with 67 points.
Lindsey Wilson freshman Cassie Niersel earned her second top-10 of the season with a sixth place finish. Niersel finished with a time of 21:17. Fellow freshman Marie Coyon earned her first career top-10 with a time of 21:39. Coyon's time was good enough for ninth place.
Rounding out the Blue Raiders were junior Meagan Crouse's 13th place (22:07) and sophomore Amber Cannon's 35th place (24:04).
On the men's side, Lindsey Wilson freshman
Sammy Maiyo led the Blue Raiders finishing second with a time 27:51 over the 8,000 meter course.
Maiyo, a Eldoret, Kenya, native, finished four seconds behind Lincoln Memorial (Tenn.) University's Jeremy Donahue's time of 27:47.
The Lindsey Wilson men finished with 133 points, good enough for sixth place. Berea won the men's event with a team total of 43 points.

Micah Hundley finished 23rd with a time of 30:42. Blue Raider sophomore
Greg Zadina's 32:37 (37th) and freshman
Rex Booth's 37:35 (51st) rounds out the Lindsey Wilson squad.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action on Saturday, September 24, as the Blue Raiders travel to Louisville for the Greater Louisville Classic.
