Men's Basketball Falls to Brescia, 64-61

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College men's basketball team was defeated by Brescia (Ky.) University 64-61 on Thursday night in Biggers Sports Center.

The Bearcats (12-8) handed Lindsey Wilson its second home loss of the season by shooting 54.5-percent (24 for 44) from the field. Brescia was led by senior forward Donald Ray Johnson who poured in a game-high 30 points on 10 of 17 shooting.
Lindsey Wilson and Brescia traded leads throughout the first 10 minutes of the game. Johnson hit a three-point basket and was fouled for a four-point play which sparked an 8-0 run and a 22-17 Brescia lead with 9:37 remaining in the first half. Brescia did not trail again in the half and took a 29-26 halftime lead.

The Blue Raiders (14-4) tied the game at 35-35 with 15:46 left after a Stephen Russell three-point field goal. Russell finished the game with nine points and 10 rebounds.

Brescia responded with a 7-0 run to take a 42-35 lead with 14:08 to play.

The Blue Raiders fought back and used an 8-0 run capped by a Scott Cook basket and foul to give Lindsey Wilson its first lead of the second half at 47-46 with 9:28 remaining. Cook ended the evening with 11 points.

The Bearcats and Blue Raiders traded punches over the next five minutes of action, seeing three ties in the process.

Brescia's Johnson connected with a field goal from the shoulder and a three-point shot in the corner to push the Bearcat lead to 58-53 and 2:55 left in the game.

Lindsey Wilson junior guard John Fitzgerald drained a three pointer with 3.8 seconds remaining to cut the Brescia lead to 62-61. Johnson was immediately fouled and hit both free throws to push the Bearcat lead to 64-61.

Lindsey Wilson attempted to throw the ball to mid-court on the inbounds, but the pass was too high and sealed the victory for Brescia.

Blue Raider sophomore forward Lloyd Lewis scored a team-high 18 points and grabbed six rebounds in the loss.
