Lindsey Wilson Women's Cross Country Wins First-Ever MSC Title, Men Third

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College men's and women's cross country teams competed in the NAIA Region XI and Mid-South Conference Championships on Saturday at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park.

The region and conference races were run as one race with each event scored separately.
The Lindsey Wilson College women won the conference portion of the event and finished second in the region behind Union (Tenn.) University.

The Lindsey Wilson men finished third in the conference race and fourth in the region.

In the women's race, Lindsey Wilson scored 51 total points in the region scoring for a runner-up finish. Union's 43 points earns the Bulldogs the automatic bid to the NAIA National Championships.

Lindsey Wilson's 35 points in the conference scoring beat second place University of the Cumberlands by eight points for the program's first MSC title. The conference win ends Cumberlands' 10-year women's cross country championship run.

Lindsey Wilson freshman Stellah Sang finished fourth overall with a time of 19 minutes and 14 seconds over the 5,000 meter course to lead the Blue Raider women. Her time was good enough for second place among MSC runners.

Freshman Monicah Maiyo finished sixth with a time of 19:17, while senior Meagan Crouse finished 12th with a time of 19:53. Sophomores Marie Coyon (20:04) and Cassie Niersel (20:05) finished 14th and 15th respectively.

Sang leads four Blue Raiders on the all-conference team. Maiyo, Crouse and Coyon joins Sang on the 10-person all-conference team.

In the men's race, Lindsey Wilson scored 103 total points in the region scoring to finish fourth. Cumberlands won the region with 29 points to earn the automatic bid to the NAIA National Championships. Union finished second with 38 points, while Campbellsville (Ky.) University finished third with 89 points.

Lindsey Wilson's 71 points in the conference scoring finished behind Cumberlands (19 points) and Campbellsville (59).

Blue Raider junior Emmanuel Isanda finished fourth overall and second in the conference with a time of 26:02 over the 8,000 meter course. Sophomore Kojo Hashiyama finished 13th with a time of 27:30.

Freshman Drake Midgett's time of 28:42 was good enough for 23rd, while sophomore Caleb Lafond finished 28th with a time of 29:26. Freshman Shelby Gribbins rounds out the Blue Raiders with a 41st place finish and a time of 30:49.

With their times, Isanda and Hashiyama earned all-conference honors.

On Friday night at the conference banquet, Lindsey Wilson coach Edwin Hagans was selected by his peers as men's and women's cross country coach of the year.
