PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- A quartet of Blue Raiders scored in double figures to lead the Lindsey Wilson College men's basketball team to a 77-56 win over host Pikeville (Ky.) College on Saturday at the Eastern Kentucky Expo. Center.
Lindsey Wilson senior
Scott Cook led the Blue Raiders in scoring for the second straight game. Cook poured in a game-high 22 points on six of 10 shooting and he made all seven of his free throw attempts in the game. Cook also contributed six assists and two steals.
Junior guard
John Fitzgerald contributed 14 points on six of nine shooting from the field. Lindsey Wilson is 10-0 this season when Fitzgerald scores double digits.
Senior
Stephen Russell recorded his sixth double-double of the season with 10 points and 12 rebounds to help the Blue Raiders to their eight straight win over Pikeville. Sophomore
Lloyd Lewis added 13 points to round out the Lindsey Wilson double figure scorers.
The No. 23-ranked Blue Raiders (21-7, 5-3 in the Mid-South Conference) remained in a second place tie in the conference race with Campbellsville (Ky.) University with two games remaining in the regular season. Georgetown (Ky.) College holds a one-game lead on the second place teams. Pikeville (8-20, 0-8) is last in the MSC and will be the No. 6-seed in two weeks at the MSC Tournament.
Lindsey Wilson led 40-26 following the first 20 minutes after shooting 51.9 percent (14 for 27) from the field, including six of 11 three pointers. LWC shot 45.5 percent (25-of-55) from the field for the game.
The Blue Raiders led by as many as 24 points in the second half before Pikeville scored seven straight points to cut the Lindsey Wilson lead to 12 points with four minutes left.
Lindsey Wilson iced the game from the free throw line in the final minutes to secure the 77-56 win. The Blue Raiders -- who ranks second in the NAIA in free throw shooting -- made 18-of-20 (90 percent) for the game.
Pikeville junior Marcus Jones led the Bears with 16 points, while senior Emanuel Tekie added 15.
