COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College men's basketball team used a stifling defense and a second-half offensive surge to beat visiting Pikeville (Ky.) College 75-49 tonight at Biggers Sports Center.
Lindsey Wilson (18-10, 3-6 in the MSC) forced the Bears into as many turnovers (17) in the first half as it allowed points in the opening 20 minutes. The Blue Raiders led 31-17 at the break.
Pikeville (12-17, 3-6) cut the Blue Raider lead to 39-28 with 13:04 left in the game.
But then junior guard
David Crawford came off the bench to score three straight three-pointers for the Blue Raiders over the next two minutes to push the lead to 48-30.
Crawford -- who finished with a career-high 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting -- led an outside attack in which the Blue Raiders hit 7-of-12 three-point shots in the second half. By contrast, Lindsey Wilson hit just 1-of-11 first-half three-point attempts.
Seniors
Brian Campbell and
John Fitzgerald -- playing in their final home game -- took their cue from Crawford and helped the Blue Raiders sprint away from the Bears.
Campbell finished with 16 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. Fitzgerald finished with 16 points, five of which came during a 10-0 Lindsey Wilson run with three minutes left.
The run ended with the Blue Raiders on top 75-45, their largest lead of the game.
Lindsey Wilson out-scored the Bears inside and out. The Blue Raiders scored 18 more points from beyond the three-point arc and out-scored Pikeville 32-22 in the paint. Lindsey Wilson also won the rebounding battle, 40-28.
Lindsey Wilson sophomore
Brandon Adams scored 10 points to give the Blue Raiders four players in double figures.
Pikeville senior Will Holloman led the Bears with 16 points. Sophomore Bo Harris chipped in 11.
