Georgetown Scorches the Nets in 95-58 Torching of Blue Raiders

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Georgetown (Ky.) College men's basketball team went on a 16-0 run early in the first half, and the No. 6-ranked Tigers never looked back en route to a 95-58 rout of Lindsey Wilson College on Saturday at Biggers Sports Center.
The loss -- the Blue Raiders' fourth straight -- dropped LWC to last place of the six-team Mid-South Conference.

The Blue Raiders scored the game's first basket -- Lindsey Wilson's only lead of the game -- and tied the game at 7-7 on senior John Fitzgerald's basket and free throw with 17:25 left in the first half.

Lindsey Wilson did not score again until 9:27 remained in the half. During the stretch, the Tigers (21-3, 5-0 MSC) were 6-of-9 from the field to take a 23-7 lead, while the Blue Raiders missed all nine of their attempts.

Georgetown senior reserve Chris Gaither sparked the Tiger run with eight of his season- and game-high 21 points.

Lindsey Wilson (16-7, 1-4 MSC) never recovered from Tiger run, trailing 44-23 at the break.

The Tigers shot 75 percent (15-of-20) in the first half, including four of five from three-point range. Lindsey Wilson -- who has not shot above 42 percent from the field during its four-game losing streak -- shot 26.9 percent (7-of-26) in the opening 20 minutes.

Georgetown squashed hopes of a Lindsey Wilson comeback in the early stages of the second half. The Tigers scored 18 of the first 24 points out of the locker room to take a 62-29 with 14:30 left.

The Tigers continued their offensive clinic in the second half en route to shooting 69.2 percent (36-of-52) from the field for the game and 66.7 percent (8-of-12) from three's.

Georgetown led by as many as 42 points in the second half en route to the 95-58 win.

Lindsey Wilson finished the game shooting just 32.1 percent (17-of-53) from the field and falling to 1-7 this season when its opponent shoots better from the field. The Blue Raiders are 12-0 this season when they shoot better than their opponents.

The Tigers -- who entered the game leading the NAIA in rebounding differential, out-rebounding their opponents by an average of 13 a game -- out-rebounded the Blue Raiders 36-22.

Lindsey Wilson sophomore Brandon Adams led the Blue Raiders with 17 points, and senior John Fitzgerald added 10.

Georgetown's Eric Fields contributed 17 points, and Kevin Reinhardt chipped in 14.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 7:30 p.m. CST on Tuesday, February 6, as the Blue Raiders host Mountain State (W.Va.) University at Biggers Sports Center in LWC's final non-conference game of the regular season.
