Men's Golf Claims Regional Championship

MOUNT STERLING, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College men's golf team punched their ticket to the NAIA National Championships with a win today at the NAIA Region XI Championships.

The regional tournament was played over two days at Old Silo Golf Club.
The No. 19-ranked Blue Raiders shot a three-round total of 927 (320-303-304) to beat second place Campbellsville (Ky.) University's 944 (324-305-315) by 17 strokes.

Lindsey Wilson adds the regional crown to their Mid-South Conference regular season and tournament titles.

The Blue Raiders advance to the national championship to be played at Indiana National Golf Club in Plymouth, Ind., May 22-25.

Lindsey Wilson sophomores Abraham Gali and Carlos Navarro led the Blue Raiders to the win as each tied for second in the 57-man field.

Gali (79-81-72) and Navarro (81-72-79) each shot 232 over the 6,977-yard, par 72 course to earn all-region honors.

Lindsey Wilson senior Zach Wilson joined Gali and Navarro on the all-tournament team with a fifth place finish following his 233 (79-78-76).

Freshman Travis Radford finished eighth with a 235 (83-75-77) and senior Kyle Andreas finished tied for 17th with a 244 (81-78-85) to round out the Blue Raider quintet.

Campbellsville's Jeff Sullivan won medalist with a 226 (76-70-80). Sullivan -- as region medalist -- also earns a trip to the national tournament.

University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) (952), Bethel (Tenn.) College (970) and Georgetown (Ky.) College (979) rounds out the top five.

Cumberlands' Justin Price and Cory Cox and Campbellsville's Jeff Gumm were also named to the all-tournament team.

Lindsey Wilson's Chris Starks was named NAIA Region XI Men's Golf Coach of the Year following his team's win. It is the second consecutive region coach of the year award for Starks.
