BEREA, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College men's and women's cross country teams swept the Berea (Ky.) College Invitational on Saturday.
The Lindsey Wilson men placed four harriers in the top five to easily beat the nine-team men's field, while the Blue Raider women had three finish in the top five to beat the eight-team women's field.
In the men's race, Lindsey Wilson freshmen David Mutuse and Christopher Kipchirchir finished one-two to lead the Blue Raiders.
Mutuse ran the 8,000-meter course in 26 minutes and 39 seconds, nine seconds faster than second-place Kipchirchir (26:48).
Lindsey Wilson junior Koji Hashiyama finished fourth with a time of 27:13, while senior teammate Emmanuel Isanda ended in fifth with a time of 27:21.
The Blue Raiders scored 30 points as a team to beat second place and host Berea by 37 points. Union (Ky.) College finished third with a team-total of 101.
LWC freshman Bradley Bilbro (29:58) finished in 18th place, while junior Caleb LaFond (30:12) and freshman Aaron Rousseau (30:43) finished 20th and 26th.
In the women's race, freshman Grace Korir finished third with a time of 19:46 over the 5,000-meter course to help the Blue Raider women to their first win of the season.
Lindsey Wilson scored a team-total of 43 points to beat second-place Georgetown (Ky.) College's 54 points. Host Berea finished third with 104 points.
Lindsey Wilson junior Marie Coyon finished just Korir for fourth place with a time of 19:50. Junior Cassie Niersel finished fifth with a 20:24.
Sophomore Amanda Johnson finished just outside the top-10 with a time of 22:02 and senior Amber Cannon ended in 20th place with a time of 23:14.
Freshmen Megan Nicole Furnish (23:36) and Candace Young (24:17) finished 24th and 31st.
Lindsey Wilson cross country returns to action on Saturday, September 29, as the Blue Raiders travel to the Greater Louisville Classic in Louisville.
