COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College men's soccer team won the battle of top-10 teams on Friday night with a 1-0 win over visiting Indiana Wesleyan University at Lindsey Wilson Park.
The No. 5-ranked Blue Raiders scored the game's only goal in the 67th minute when junior midfielder Nathaniel Jafta scored in traffic to hand the No. 6-ranked Wildcats their first loss of the season.
In the opening half, both teams squandered scoring chances deep inside the penalty area.
Of Lindsey Wilson's nine first half shots, seven found the target. But Indiana Wesleyan sophomore goalkeeper Spenser Lang turned each away. The Wildcats (8-1-1) managed four shots in the half, including one off a corner kick from point-blank range. Lindsey Wilson junior goalkeeper Glen Fox secured the ball for his only save of the night.
In the second half, Lindsey Wilson dominated play.
The Blue Raiders (9-1-0) out-shot Indiana Wesleyan 8-0 after the break, including the lone goal.
Lindsey Wilson senior midfielder Adam Howard played a corner kick short to senior defender Tiyiselani Shipalane, who played the ball into the box.
Jafta secured the ball eight yards from the line and sent the ball through traffic on target past Lang at the 66:15 mark.
The goal is Jafta's ninth of the season and 25th of his career. His nine goals in a season, ties his career high. Jafta also had nine goals last season.
The Blue Raiders finished the night out-shooting the Wildcats 17-4 and held a 12-1 shots on-goal advantage.
Fox earned his sixth shutout win of the season. Lang -- who ended the night with 11 saves -- suffered the loss.
