LONDON, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College women's golf team won the team's season opener and the men finished third today at the University of the Cumberlands Fall Invitational at Crooked Creek Golf Community.
The Lindsey Wilson women shot a two-day team-total of 648 (326-322) over the par-73, 5,989-yard Crooked Creek layout. Georgetown (Ky.) College finished second with a team-total of 672 (332-340) and Campbellsville (Ky.) University ended in third with a 682 (340-342).
Lindsey Wilson sophomore Krista Burton finished tied for second with a two-day total of 14-over par 160 (79-81). Burton finished one stroke off the pace of Georgetown freshman Jessica Collins' 159 (82-77).
Lindsey Wilson senior Jessica Robertson (82-81) and freshman Chelsey Key (85-78) tied for fifth with a 163. Sophomore Cheslee Elkins finished seventh with a 164 (82-82).
The trio joined Burton on the all-tournament team.
Junior Aline Decker finished 12th with a 171 (83-88) to round out the Blue Raider team.
On the men's side, Lindsey Wilson shot a two-day team-total of 588 (299-289) to finish in third, 17 strokes behind first-place Lee (Tenn.) University's 571 (291-280). Campbellsville finished second with a 584 (291-293) over the par 72, 6,933-yard Crooked Creek course.
Lindsey Wilson junior Carlos Navarro led the Blue Raiders with a third place finish with a two-day total of two-under par 142 (70-72). Junior Abraham Gali finished tied for eighth with a 146 (77-69).
The pair was named to the all-tournament team.
Lee's Joshua Lawson won the tournament with a six-under par 138 (73-65). Lawson's 65 on Friday tied the Crooked Creek course record.
Lindsey Wilson freshman Joe Hood finished 11th with a 148 (76-72), sophomore Travis Radford finished tied for 21st with a 152 (76-76) and freshman Ross Crowe finished in 42nd with a 158 (80-78) to round out the Blue Raiders.
The Lindsey Wilson College men return to action on Thursday and Friday, September 13-14 as the Blue Raiders travel to Georgetown Fall Invitational at Cherry Blossom Golf Club.
The Lindsey Wilson women return to action Monday and Tuesday, September 17-18 as the Blue Raiders host the Lindsey Wilson Fall Invitational at Pinewood Country Club.
