DANVILLE, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College women's cross country team opened the 2008 season on Saturday at the Centre (Ky.) College Invitational.
The Blue Raiders finished fourth with 113 points. Host Centre won the team event with 51 points.
Lindsey Wilson senior Cassie Niersel led the Blue Raiders with a 13th place finish over the 5,000 meter run. Niersel completed the course in 22 minutes 24 seconds.
Junior Monicah Maiyo finished 15th with a time 22:37 to give the Blue Raiders a pair inside the top-15.
Freshman Alicia Mattingly -- participating in her first collegiate race -- finished 23rd with a time of 23:07. Junior Amanda Johnson (23:39) and sophomore Nicole Furnish (24:51) finished 28th and 42nd respectively. Sophomore Candace Young (61st) rounded out the Blue Raider harriers with a time of 27:09.
Georgetown (Ky.) College junior Britney Chesser won the event with a 19:24. Chesser helped Georgetown's team to a second place finish in the event with 64 points.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 20, as the Blue Raiders travel to Berea (Ky.) College in Berea, Ky.
