LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Lindsey Wilson College sophomore Alicia Mattingly shattered her personal record time at the Greater Louisville Classic Saturday as women's cross country finished 21st out of 35 teams with two runners in the top 100 at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park.
Mattingly completed the 5K run in 20 minutes and 45.74 seconds, breaking the 21-minute barrier for the first time, and finishing in 68th place out of 298 harriers.
The sophomores previous best time was a 22:02.21 finish on Sept. 20, 2008 at the Berea (Ky.) College Invitational. Mattingly's mark on Saturday crushed that time by one minute and 17 seconds.
Blue Raider senior Monicah Maiyo also placed among the top-100 runners, finishing 100th in 21:14.90. Newcomer Tessa Kasch wasn't far behind in 119th place with a time of 21:31.54 as the third Blue Raider across the line.
Lindsey Wilson accumulated 521 points and posted a total time of 1:47:37.85. The University of Kentucky won the classic with 75 points and a 1:36:56.09 total time.
Other finishers for the Blue Raiders were senior Amanda Johnson in 22:00.65 for 153rd place. Junior Nicole Furnish took 157th place with a personal-record time of 22:05.02. Freshman Stephanie Dukes turned in a time of 22:42.01 for 195th place, while junior Candace Young rounded out the group in 263rd place with a time of 24:57.09.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 3:30 p.m. CT on Oct. 16 for the Wilmington College Invitational in Wilmington, Ohio.
