Men's Basketball Finishes Strong in 68-63 Victory over Bluefield College

Box Score

CAMBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- In a game where neither team wanted to go away, Lindsey Wilson College won the battle of attrition over Bluefield (Va.) College, 68-63, on Saturday at the Lou Cunningham Classic hosted by Campbellsville (Ky.) University.

Senior Andrija Tintor led the Blue Raiders with a season-high 17 points, including 15 scored in the first half. Tintor scored the first six points of the game for Lindsey Wilson.

Carlton Shumake, a freshman from Louisville, Ky., paced the Rams with 21 points, while his classmate Marcus Jackson added 10 points, including eight in the first half.

Jackson followed Tintor's lead in the early going, scoring the first eight points for Bluefield (1-4), including a pair of three-point baskets.

While the Blue Raiders led by as many as 11 points, the advantage was short lived as the Lindsey Wilson (3-1) lead hovered around five points the majority of the contest.

Trailing 60-51 near the one-minute mark in the game, Bluefield started to foul, forcing Lindsey Wilson to keep its lead from the line in a late effort to successfully come back.

The plan was effective in closing the margin, but not in winning the game.

Bluefield clawed back within four (67-63), but ran out of time with just three seconds left on the clock to complete the rally.

Freshman Kalen Kimberland chipped in eight points off the bench in the first half for Lindsey Wilson.

Down by four early in the game (10-6), Kimberland hit a three from the corner that started a 7-2 run to give the Blue Raiders their first lead of the game (13-12).

Leads, however, didn't mean much in the first half as there were 10 lead changes. While Lindsey Wilson went into halftime up three (28-25), the Rams claimed the largest lead of the half (six points) in the second minute of the game.

Both teams struggled from the field in the first half, with the Blue Raiders holding the slight advantage, 39.1 percent to 32.3. Bluefield shot 16 three's in the half with five makes, while Lindsey Wilson went 3-of-9 from behind the arc.

Bluefield senior Omar Reed sunk a three to open the second half, tying the game (28-28). It was one of only two ties in the half, as the Blue Raiders pulled ahead by one (31-30) on a Tintor free throw and never lost the lead again.

Tintor's efficiency from the free-throw line proved to be a large factor in holding off the Rams.

The senior finished the game shooting 7-of-10 from the line, while as a team Lindsey Wilson hit 74.1 percent (20-of-27) of its free throws.

Kimberland finished the game with 15 points and junior Kemo Duncan added 10 points and six rebounds for the Blue Raiders. Senior Eric McPherson flirted with a double-double, tallying eight points and a game-high nine rebounds.

The Blue Raiders closed the game shooting 44 percent from the field and 36.4 percent from behind the arc. Bluefield shot just 38.3 percent from the field, but 40 percent from three-point range. Lindsey Wilson held the advantage in rebounds, 41-27.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 6 p.m. CT on Nov. 17 against Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University in Henderson, Tenn.
