Box Score

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The No. 25-ranked Lindsey Wilson College men's basketball team never trailed in overtime in beating No. 2-ranked Georgetown (Ky.) College 77-75 on Saturday at Biggers Sports Center.

The Blue Raiders overcame a seven-point deficit in the final 75 seconds of regulation to send the game into an extra frame en route to ending the Tigers' 29-game Mid-South Conference winning streak.

With 33 seconds remaining in regulation, Lindsey Wilson sophomore guard Jeremiah Diebler nailed a deep three-pointer to cut the Georgetown lead to 64-60. Georgetown senior Demetrius Guions missed a pair of free throws giving the Blue Raiders (17-3, 4-1 in the Mid-South Conference) a chance to cut into the lead.

Lindsey Wilson junior guard Joshua Cherry did just that.

Cherry dribbled to the top of the key and hit a three pointer with 13.3 seconds left in the game cutting the deficit to 64-63. Cherry finished with 11 points and a game-high five assists.

Senior guard David Graham was immediately fouled by Cherry with 11.2 seconds remaining and preceded to make one of two freebies to give Georgetown (21-2, 5-1) a 65-63 lead and the Blue Raiders another chance.

Cherry once again drove the length of the court but this time missed a lay-up. Junior center Paki Brown cleaned up the miss with a perfectly timed rebound dunk with 5.2 seconds left tying the game 65-65 and sending the capacity crowd into a frenzy.

Georgetown could not get a shot off in the waning seconds sending the game to overtime tied at 65-65.

Junior guard Eric McPherson hit a three-pointer giving Lindsey Wilson a 68-65 lead just 24 seconds into the overtime. The Blue Raiders would never trail again. McPherson scored a team-high 15 points.

The Tigers cut the LWC lead to 72-71 with 2:20 remaining after senior guard Jerry Turner knocked down two free throws. Cherry responded with a quick lay-up to extend the lead back to three points.

Following a defensive stop, Cherry was fouled and knocked down one of the two free throws extending the Lindsey Wilson lead to 75-71.

Georgetown would not go away.

Tiger sophomore guard Matt Walls knocked down two free throws and after a Blue Raider turnover, Guions scored in the paint to tie the game at 75-75 with 13.3 seconds left.

After a timeout, Walls' foul sent McPherson to line where he calmly hit both giving Lindsey Wilson a 77-75 lead.

Georgetown's final attempt failed and Lindsey Wilson ended the Tigers' 18-game winning streak with the 77-75 win.

Brown joined McPherson and Cherry in double figures with 10 points. Guions finished with a game-high 23 points and freshman Vic Moses added 14 for the Tigers in the loss.

The upset gives the Blue Raiders wins over two ranked opponents this week. On Thursday, Lindsey Wilson defeated No. 12-ranked West Virginia University Institute of Technology 67-63.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 7 p.m. CT on Thursday, Feb. 5th, as the Blue Raiders travel to St. Catharine (Ky.) College.
