Kimberland Lifts Men's Basketball over No. 23 Freed-Hardeman in Overtime 78-72

Box Score

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Kalen Kimberland hit four straight free throws and knocked down a jumper in overtime to finish with 15 points, five rebounds and three assists and lift the Lindsey Wilson College men's basketball team over 23rd ranked Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University 78-72 on Tuesday at Biggers Sports Center.

Kimberland wasn't alone in double figures as junior Justin Archie added 13 points and senior Jeremiah Diebler scored 11 aided by three 3-pointers. Junior Charles Baker was the leading rebounder with nine.

Freed-Hardeman got 23 points and 10 rebounds from Kyle Teichmann, while Ken Bingham added 16 points to lead the Lions.

Lindsey Wilson started out the game on a 6-0 run with back -to-back triples from Kimberland and Clemons and eventually pulled out by as many as 12 points late in the first half.

After going into halftime up 34-30, the Blue Raiders continued to be in control up to the 5:33 mark when they pulled ahead by 12 (58-46) on a basket by Baker. Then the offense hit a standstill.

The Lions reeled off a 9-0 run to climb within three points of Lindsey Wilson with under three minutes to play.

Play on the court remained tight, all the way up to the moment Jonathan Milewski intercepted an inbounds pass down one point with 16 seconds on the clock. Milewski quickly put in the easy layup to give the Lions their first lead of the game.

Clemons made the second of two free throws on the next possession to tie the game at 63 and Teichmann's last-second shot fell short to send the game into overtime.

In the extra period, neither team led by more than three points until it became a free-throw battle down the stretch. Needing to hit clutch free throws to remain in front, the Blue Raiders responded, hitting 8-of-10 from the line to preserve the lead and pull out the six-point win.

Shooting was bad on both ends of the court, as the Lions led the way from the field at 39.1 percent compared to 38.8 percent for the Blue Raiders. Lindsey Wilson did hit 10 threes, while Freed-Hardeman connected on just five.

The rebounding battle was just as tight as the score with Lindsey Wilson holding a 44-43 advantage. Lindsey Wilson finished with 16 assists and just 14 turnovers and forced the Lions into 18 turnovers with just eight assists.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 2 p.m. CT on Nov. 27 at East-West University in Chicago, Ill.
