CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- It's two-for-two for the Lindsey Wilson College men's golf program as the Blue Raiders secured their second straight President's Cup win today at Campbellsville Country Club.
The Blue Raiders defeated host Campbellsville (Ky.) University 10 1/2 to 4 1/2 in the Ryder Cup-like matches. Lindsey Wilson also claimed the team stroke play event with a two-day total of 586 (300-286). Campbellsville fired a 597 (300-297).
Leading 3 to 2 after the first day of matches, Lindsey Wilson dominated the 10 singles matches in Sunday's final round.
Lindsey Wilson sophomore Daron Morris led off the day with a halve against Campbellsville's Trey Shirley. Blue Raider senior Joe Hood notched the first full point of the day with a 2&1 win over Campbellsville's Tanner Mobley.
LWC junior Derek Murphy claimed another full point for the Blue Raiders with a birdie on the 18th hole to beat Campbellsville's Logan Griffin 1Up.
Lindsey Wilson sophomore Antonio Arriola -- the two-day medalist with a score of 138 (68-70) -- won his match easily with a 6&5 win to increase the Blue Raider lead to 6 1/2 to 2 1/2.
The Tigers cut the Blue Raider lead with wins in the next two matches, but Lindsey Wilson won the final four matches to claim the 10 1/2 to 4 1/2 win.
Arriola won the stroke play event by six strokes over Shirley who fired a two-round total of 144 (74-70) over the 6,510-yard, par-72 Campbellsville layout. Morris finished third with a 148 (77-71) and junior Chris Lewis finished tied for fifth with a 151 (73-78).
Lindsey Wilson returns to action Sept. 2-3 as the Blue Raiders travel to the Bill Sergent Invitational hosted by University of the Cumberlands at Crooked Creek Golf Club in London, Ky.
