No. 22 Men's Basketball Loses at No. 11 Georgetown, 66-52

Box Score

GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- Kalen Kimberland was the only player in double figures for the 22nd ranked Lindsey Wilson College men's basketball team with 11 points as it came up short in a defensive battle with 11th ranked Georgetown (Ky.) College, 66-52, on Saturday in Davis-Reid Alumni Gym.

Every player on the Lindsey Wilson roster scored in the game as senior Cornell Thomas added eight points and senior Brandon Clemons and junior Chase Spreen each added six points to the Blue Raider attack.

Victor Moses paced Georgetown with 14 points and five rebounds and Tyrone Shelley added 12 points and six boards.

Georgetown got out on top big early, building a 20-6 lead before the first timeout called in the game with 11:52 to play in the first half. Lindsey Wilson was ice cold from the field, not being able to score despite battling the Tigers equally on the boards.

Then the momentum in the game completely switched as Lindsey Wilson outscored the Tigers the rest of the half 15-10 to trail by just nine points at halftime behind five points from Kimberland and four for Thomas.

Both teams struggled from the field in the first half with the Tigers holding a slight advantage 31.3 to 26.1 percent. There was just one 3-pointer hit for each team in the half.

Georgetown used the first few minutes of the second half to build a nine-point lead, but Thomas made a wild layup in the paint and was intentionally fouled for a free throw to scrap back within four (34-30) with 15 minutes to play.

After a basket by junior Justin Archie, the Blue Raiders were held without a field goal for over eight minutes and didn't get another shot to go down until an Archie layup with 4:27 on the clock.

During the offensive absence, Georgetown built its largest lead of the game to that point at 21 points.

Free throws and turnovers by Georgetown late in the game brought the Blue Raiders back within 14, but it was as close as the Blue Raiders would get the rest of the way.

The Blue Raiders shot just 29.8 percent from the field and 12.5 percent from behind the arc. In 16 3-point attempts, Lindsey Wilson got just two to go down. Georgetown finished shooting 41.1 percent from the field and held a 38-36 advantage rebounding to help top the Blue Raiders.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 8 p.m. CT on Saturday, Jan. 20 against Campbellsville (Ky.) University in Biggers Sports Center.
