Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Vance Cooksey knocked down a free throw with four seconds left in the game to give Pikeville (Ky.) College a four-point lead to seal the 82-78 win against the Lindsey Wilson College men's basketball team on Saturday in Biggers Sports Center.
Sophomore Kalen Kimberland paced the Blue Raiders with 18 points and seniors Jeremiah Diebler and Brandon Clemons added 16 and 15 points, respectively.
Chris Donald led Pikeville (18-5, 7-4 MSC) with 19 points, while Vance Cooksey added 18 and Justin Hicks scored 15. Cooksey also pulled down six rebounds.
After falling behind by as many as 13 points in the first half, Lindsey Wilson (15-6, 6-4 MSC) worked its way to its first lead with nine minutes to play in the game on a layup by junior Rayshawn Alexander to make the score 58-56.
The Blue Raiders extended that lead to as many as six points on a basket by Clemons, but it was short lived as the Bears got energized and went to work chipping away at the lead. A free throw by Donald tied the game at 69 with fewer than five minutes to play.
After two more lead changes and a tie, Pikeville finally took control with 45 seconds on the clock on a 3-pointer by Setty to push ahead by five points.
Archie made a highlight-reel layup on the next possession, but the Bears hit their free throws down the stretch to claim their sixth Mid-South Conference win of the season.
The teams shot similarly from the field with Pikeville knocking down 46.8 percent and 42.6 percent by the Blue Raiders. Pikeville did its most damage in the first half, hitting 6-of-12 3-pointers.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 8 p.m. CT on Monday, Jan. 31 against Campbellsville (Ky.) University at Biggers Sports Center.
