Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. -- After trailing 30-18 at halftime, the Lindsey Wilson College men's basketball team outscored the University of Rio Grande (Ohio) 45-21 in the second half for a 63-51 win on Saturday at Biggers Sports Center.
Junior Chase Spreen led all scorers with 17 points and sophomore Kalen Kimberland (14), freshman Chase Cox (12) and senior Cornell Thomas (10) all added double figures for the Blue Raiders.
Shaun Gunnell paced the RedStorm with 14 points, while Brad Cubbie added 13 points. Gunnell also had a game-high seven rebounds.
It looked like Rio Grande would be on its way to an easy win in the first half, building a lead of as many as 16 points while the Blue Raiders struggled, shooting just 13.4 percent from the field.
The second half was a different story as Lindsey Wilson jumped out on an 18-6 run to tie the game at 36 with nearly 14 minutes to play in the game.
Ten minutes later, on a pair of free throws by Kimberland, Lindsey Wilson was in the driver's seat, leading by 10 points with under five minutes to play.
Rio Grande got no closer the rest of the way as the Blue Raiders extended their lead to as many as 18 points down the stretch.
After the horrid start, the Blue Raiders finished the game shooting 40.9 percent from the field. Rio Grande shot 42.9 percent and outrebounded the Blue Raiders 30-26 in the loss.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 7 p.m. CT on Thursday, Jan. 13 at Shawnee State (Ohio) University.
