No. 2 Men's Soccer Uses Two Second-Half Goals to Beat No. 9 Bethel 2-0

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Carl Pettersson netted a looping goal from nearly 40 yards out in the 65th minute to break the scoreless game and help the second ranked Lindsey Wilson College men's soccer team stay undefeated and put away ninth ranked Bethel (Tenn.) University 2-0 on Friday at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.

Senior Moses Aduny followed Pettersson's strike seven minutes later off a well-placed pass from freshman Philip Sandgren inside the box that he nudged past the Wildcat keeper to raise the Blue Raider lead.

Up until those two scores the game had been a clinic in goalkeeping by Lindsey Wilson (11-0, 4-0 MSC) freshman Yuta Nomura who finished with four saves, but even more so by Bethel (9-2-2, 5-0 TSAC) keeper Fabian Doubek who finished the game with nine saves.

Lindsey Wilson has three good chances in the first half to take a lead even earlier.

Junior Eddy Campbell had a strike in the 28th minute from outside the right side of the box saved, and in the 32nd minute, senior Samuel Asante played a near perfect cross to junior Lebogang Moloto in the center of the box that he shot straight ahead for a save by Doubek.

Finally, in the 44th minute, junior Mat Luak got loose for a shot from just outside the box as the half winded down that was saved as well.

Though the play of Doubek kept Bethel in the game for 65 minutes, the Blue Raiders' 15-9 advantage in shots finally took their toll, leading to the goals just seven minutes apart to give Lindsey Wilson the win in the top-10 battle.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 5 p.m. CT on Sunday in a makeup game against the University of Pikeville (Ky.) after the original date on Tuesday was postponed due to inclement weather.
